INTERVIEW: Brynn Elliott

1.) We’re very happy to be speaking today with acclaimed singer and songwriter Brynn Elliott; greetings and salutations Brynn and welcome to Vents Magazine! Before we meander down the holiday-festooned Q&A musical pathway, how is the latter-part of 2024 treating you and yours?

Thank you for having me! It has been a really great year, we just moved to Nashville and are enjoying time with family.

2.) Major kudos and accolades on your freshly-minted new single, a gobsmackingly beautiful rendition of the Christmas evergreen Silent Night! Starting at the top, can you talk about what inspired you to take on such a beloved classic?

I have always loved this song, it’s probably my favorite Christmas song to sing. So I just wanted to have it out there!

3.) What are the secrets to delivering a successful cover version of a well-known tune such as Silent Night

There aren’t any secrets but my friend and producer, Johnny Hanson, had the lovely idea to have us sing a whole choirs worth of vocal parts on this song and I think it just instantly makes it sound magical.

How do you strike out and do your own creative thing without alienating the folks who hold this tune so close to their heart?

I think you have to keep the bones of the song there and not make it too much about yourself. Just give your own little unique spin on it.

4.) Who did the producing honors on Silent Night and what did the in-studio collaboration between artist and producer look like while fashioning and shaping your own indelible take on this holiday favorite?

Johnny Hanson produced the song. Every artist/producer relationship looks different but I think the most important thing is trust. I trust Johnny a whole lot and so I knew that he would produce this version in a way that I would love.

5.) After listening to your version of Silent Night, I found myself desperately wishing you had an entire album of Christmas music to listen to! What are the odds that fans will one day see such a creature from you?

I think this is very likely!

6.) Other than Silent Night, were there any other Christmas tunes which may have been in the running for you to possibly record? Or was it always a given in your mind that it was going to be Silent Night no matter what?

It is so hard to choose but I do think this is one I have always wanted to do.

7.) In the wake of the November 22 release of the new single Silent Night, can fans look forward to catching you on the touring/performing circuit?

I will be doing some shows around Nashville but no tour plans yet!

8.) What does the year 2025 hold in store for you musically-speaking?

I am not sure yet! Still exploring all the possibilities.

9.) You were Atlanta, Georgia born and have lived in LA and now Nashville! How do those seemingly disparate roots inform you as both an artist and as a person?

I have family roots in the midwest and Appalachia. It think all of the cities I have lived in are music cities in some sense. Nashville feels the closest to my familial roots which is why I think I am here now to be closer to that.

10.) At the end of the day, what do you hope folks walk away with after giving many-a-spin to your beautiful rendition of Silent Night?

It is simple but true – I hope they feel a sense of peace from this song.

11.) Final – SILLY! – Question: Favorite Christmas movie – It’s a Wonderful LifeA Christmas StoryDie Hard or the original Miracle On 34th Street?

A Christmas Story hands down! My parents say it reminds them of their childhoods in Indianapolis so it was on every Christmas growing up.
