The AJM Show Unveils Masterful Indie-Tinged Debut EP Matinee

The AJM Show, the project masterminded by London-based Alex Martin gears up to release his colourful debut EP ‘Matinee’. Following the release of ‘Until You Come By’ earlier in the summer, the dynamic songwriter continues to match vivid melodies with an infectious swagger to bring a joy-filled sense of excitement to the airwaves.

Kicking off with the high-energy anthem ‘Take A Walk’, followed closely by the equally infectious single ‘Until You Come By’, Matinee holds its ground as an excitable slice of pop music-making. Rich indie flavours are spilled over the airwaves, giving the EP both a nostalgic glow and a contemporary charm. Showcasing a vast creative template, the body of tracks mellows out gently with ‘Are You Looking For Me’ – the equally heartfelt and alluring pop-ballad. Matinee holds some comparison to the vintage sheen of the likes of Blossoms and Inhaler, falling back on smooth, rounded sonic edges and warm synthesisers. All in all, the six-track is a sensational body of work, and he’s only just getting started.

Speaking about the EP, Alex comments, “It’s indie-pop/rock at its core but has a further blend of influence and instrumentation from further afield, such as R’n’B & funk. The writing for this project began during the latter stages of the pandemic and is self-produced/recorded, also featuring some excellent musicians who’ve contributed. Lyrically, it tackles a variety of themes, such as fracturing relationships longing for youth, and the monotonous life that stemmed from lockdown.”
