1.) We’re super-excited to have some time today with acclaimed British rockers Paradise Sins; greetings and salutations gang and welcome to Vents Magazine! Before we dive into the Q&A mosh-pit, could you all say ‘hi’ and introduce yourselves to our ever-inquisitive reading audience?
Hi I’m Loui and I play bass guitar in the band. No one listens to bassists so you can go ahead and ignore everything I say.
I’m Luis and I’m the singer/resident band expert on how many musical instrument issues you can fix with a box of toothpicks.
Hi, I’m Zack I play the drums and I look good while I’m doing it. I’m also the guy at the back who does a decent Animal impression.
Dan Jay here, guitarist/songwriter, toothpick stealer.
Hello there! Conor here! I am the other dude on guitar, the taller, less sexy one. Normally found at the back of the stage rocking out with Zack.
2.) Major kudos and accolades on your freshly-minted new single Love Like Hell which drops this coming October11! Luis, can you talk about what inspired one of the very best single releases of 2024?
Thank you! It’s kinda inspired by a few things, when I first heard the instrumental I was instantly hit with memories of rock club nights in Birmingham right away. It has that kinda fun and sleaziness to it y’know? The lyrics are kind of about relationships and kind of about sex, I guess it just depends on how you interpret it. I feel like you can’t have the good without the bad sometimes. We all have that duality to us and it’s fun to play with that concept when it comes to love.
3.) Zack, who did the producing honors on Love Like Hell and what did the collaboration between band and producer look like while in the studio fashioning and shaping the new tune?
Luckily our producer is in the band! When we recorded it, we all did it using our equipment at home but all the audio magic was done by Dan. We wanted it to sound clean but also wanted it to sound bouncy and fun and keep that signature sound we’ve got going; the only thing added in after the recording would have been the synths, they’re in the background but they glue the sound together massively! Mostly, our playing is what made the production on this track come to life!
4.) Loui, we absolutely love the companion music video for Love Like Hell! Did you all have as much fun making the music video for this gem of a ditty as we did in the watching of it?
We absolutely loved making the video, it was so much fun! We filmed it while having a party at Conor’s house with our friends so we could get them all involved. Things were a little bit stiff at first as our mates had done nothing like it before, but once the beers were flowing it all started coming together. To be honest it all became a bit of a blur for me towards the end but I’m super proud of the video and how it came out, it fits the track perfectly.
5.) Dan, hot on the heels of the release of the new Paradise Sins single, the group is poised to drop a new EP on December 6 entitled Desires; congrats! Can you give fans a hint or three as to what they can expect and look forward to with the upcoming EP?
Thank you!! Desires is a full-throttle sonic beast, smashing anthem-like intensity with limitless melodies. It captures our fierce ambitions, ripping through with high-octane yet soulful vocals. The production is a wild auditory ride – an unapologetic, immersive reflection of our unrelenting love for the live show. It’s the perfect follow-up to our first EP Untamed, which we released earlier this year. Mashup together Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Alter Bridge and add some Maiden whipped cream, you’ve got a good representation of influences behind the record.
6.) Conor, what does the touring/performing dance card look like for Paradise Sins in the coming weeks and months?
We have recently signed wity management – more on that in November this year – and we are working closely together to fill our 2025 calendar with Mind Blowing, Adrenaline pumping, High octane shows! I can’t wait! As for this year we will be pushing our music as far as we can while picking up shows around the midlands and ending the year with a killer show on New years Eve in Wolverhampton!
7.) A question for all of you: Who are you inspired by musically-speaking?
Luis – I could be here all day with this, but when it comes to singing for this band I’d say guys like Daniel Tompkins from Tesseract & Myles Kennedy, I like vocalists with a big range and something interesting to say.
Loui – I have always been inspired by bands like Iron Maiden and Metallica, the aggressive playing style of Cliff Burton and Jason Newstead is something that I bring into the way I play. I am still aspiring to be able to play as fast as Steve Harris, maybe one day!
Zack – That’s difficult to say because there are so many musicians that inspire me, but I’ve got to say my biggest drum inspiration for my playing has probably been The Rev from A7X and Dave Lombardo from his work in Slayer, you only have to listen to our track Undead to hear the influence he had on my drum fills in that track.
Dan – This is a biggy, probably far too many to mention. I grew up idolizing Slash. His aggressive and addictive melodies put some flavor in my style. Other worthy mentions, Dave Murray of Iron Maiden. His ability to whip up the frets so smoothly is something else. Also, Mark Tremonti. The guy is simply a genius. And I cannot forget Justin and Dan Hawkins. Both those guys influenced my songwriting from an early age. The Darkness are an albums band, which sadly in this day in age is slowly fading away.
Conor – So I was brought up the right way! From a young age I was head banging and rocking out to Mötley Crüe, Def Leppard, Ozzy, Alice Cooper, Iron Maiden, while attempting to play along with my first Guitar. As I got older I started discovering heavier bands, Trivium, Bullet for my Valentine, Avenged Sevenfold, In Flames, which I was incredibly inspired by, from the soaring melodies and the grit in the music. I then started listening to more progressive bands like Intervals and Tesseract and that really blew my mind. I feel as if I took a piece from each of these different artists and that has really made me the guitar player, music lover and person that I am today.
8.) Luis, speaking of touring and performing: For anyone who hasn’t been lucky enough to catch Paradise Sins at a live show, what type of performance do you put on? What can fans expect to see at a Paradise Sins show?
We bring the power, you make that into energy. There’s nothing we all love more and I get so hyped with how people respond to our live shows. It’s like a rollercoaster, we strap you in, take you on some highs and lows, twists and turns, leave you exhausted and gasping and feeling like it was over all too quickly and you’re ready for another one!
9.) Zack, how is the upcoming EP Desires similar to the last Paradise Sins EP Untamed? How is it different?
Some similarities would have to be the energy we put into those tracks and how we’ve pushed our playing skills to deliver some hard-hitting songs that we know our fans will love like hell, because we do! It’s different in so many ways too, we’ve got a ballad in there too which is a real heart wrencher so prepare yourself for that! I’d also say (not that I’m biased or anything) but the drum parts on this EP are heavier and hit like a train, somehow even harder than our Untamed EP!
10.) Loui, any final thoughts you might like to share with fans regarding the new single Love Like Hell and/or the upcoming December 6 EP Desires?
I can’t wait for fans to hear Love Like Hell, it’s a banger of a track and once it gets in your head it’s very hard to get it out! We have all worked so hard on both of the EPs and are very proud of what we have created, getting Desires out is a massive achievement for us and I think it really shows the potential we have as a band.
