Bringing her rich sonic tapestries back into the limelight, ævina unveils a new music video for her 2021 single ‘daily dose of danger’.
Peering into the soundwaves with the sounds of warm record static, the ethereal nature slowly starts to unravel with a gentle, haunting vocal. The synthesized atmosphere brings a foreboding edge to the track, pushed forward by eerie strings and enticing ukelele strums. The lo-fi aura the track enthuses lends itself to the musicianship behind the single, enshrouding itself in unsettling mystery. The single may only have a simple structure, but it’s this unsettling simplicity that gives ævina her dramatic complexity, making her a unique one-of-a-kind.
The tracks accompanying video paves the way for ævina’s poetry to be brought to life. Dark sequences and goth-horror iconography equivocate an unsetting backbone within the single. The enticing b-roll footage gives colour to the single’s dystopic edge, cementing ævina as a sensational creative force.
Speaking about the track, ævina shares, “The Ukulelian is my brainchild, designed as a rebuttal to the pervasive elitism I’ve come up against in the music scene. I stand behind the ukulele on a philosophical & spiritual level. While it is often maligned for being out of tune or too easy, I argue that imperfect music is oftentimes even more compelling than its polished counterparts. I find it to be a virtue that the ukulele is easy (read: accessible) and I frequently find myself proselytizing on her behalf. There is no more potent antidepressant on the market.”
