INTERVIEW: The Chronicles of Manimal and Samara

1.)   We’re super-excited to be speaking today with the rightly acclaimed Progressive Metal duo extraordinaire, THE CHRONICLES OF MANIMAL AND SAMARA; greetings and salutations gang and welcome to Vents Magazine! Before we dive into the Q&A mosh-pit, could you each say ‘hi’ and introduce yourselves to our ever-inquisitive readers?

Greetings and salutations from planet TCOMAS to the wonderful inhabitants of Vents Magazine!

2.)   Major kudos and accolades on your freshly-minted new single Waves which is set to make landfall this coming October 4! Daphne, can you talk about what inspired this melodic and mesmerizing gem of a ditty?

The song talks the contemplation of suicide and the agony of hiding the sufferings of mind. Most importantly, it is about having a friend to haul you out of stormy waters.

The lyrics is much inspired by Virginia Woolf’s final piece of writing – her suicide note, which was deeply haunting but yet was also an expression of deep love and affection.

The video, however, tells a different story. For the first part of the video, I wanted to recreate how it must have felt like to be a character in Virginia Woolf’s novel ‘The Waves’. The second part of the video is by Andrea (who is an avid surfer), and is an ode to the imagery of breaking waves.

3.)   Andrea, who did the producing honors on Waves and what did the collaboration process look like between band and producer while in the studio fashioning and shaping the new tune?

I produced the track and the collaboration process ran weardly smoothly between myself and I, then ‘Waves” has been mixed and mastered by Marinos Tountas of Ergosphere Studios and it sounded like it was meant to sound.

4.)   Daphne, in your humble opinion what differentiates the Waves single from the Distinguished Competition on the 2024 music scene?

Not much of a competition for us, we do our thing, and when we are happy with it, we release it.

5.)   Andrea, how is Waves similar to some of the past music from THE CHRONICLES OF MANIMAL AND SAMARA such as Love in the Time of Pestilence? How is it different?

We never repeat ourselves, we always keep our core and we experiment with different sounds, new and old.

6.)   Daphne, word ‘round industry campfire has it that, hot on the heels of the October 4 release of the new single Waves, THE CHRONICLES OF MANIMAL AND SAMARA will be dropping their eagerly-anticipated LP Origins on Friday, November 1; major congratulations! Can you give fans a hint or three as to what they can expect and look forward to with the upcoming album release

We are going to throw a massive party for the album release,  which is going to start on Halloween evening in Camden Town, London, UK. We will be masked but if you recognise us, we will buy you a drink!

7.)   Andrea, what does the touring/performing dance card look like for THE CHRONICLES OF MANIMAL AND SAMARA in the coming weeks and months?

We both have full time jobs so we don’t have the necessity to play live to earn money, but you can sign the petition.

8.)   Daphne, we’re big admirers of the tune It Goes which is front-and-center on the upcoming THE CHRONICLES OF MANIMAL AND SAMARA album Origins! What’s the inside scoop on this lovely tune?

I remember I was in Japan on holiday with my family, unfortunately Andrea could get his holidays this time. But one day, he called me and said: “Don’t you worry my love, I just recorded the hit of our new album, you are welcome, have fun in Japan, I love you”.

9.)   Andrea, who are some of the musicians who have inspired the indelible sounds of THE CHRONICLES OF MANIMAL AND SAMARA

Giacomo Puccini, Syd Barrett, Sid Vicious and Yoko Ono.

10.) Daphne, any final thoughts you might like to share with fans about the new single Waves which hits on October 4?

This quote sums up Waves: “And so we spend our lives riding the waves, sometimes we rise briefly to ride above the stormy waters, but no fin breaks the waste of this immeasurable sea.”
