INTERVIEW: Afro House aficionado Dj Bardopoulos

We’re very excited to have some time today with acclaimed Afro house aficionado and music artist extraordinaire, Thanos Bardopoulos who is perhaps best known ‘round the ever-lovin’ world by his far-famed moniker Dj Bardopoulos; greetings and salutations Thanos and welcome to Vents Magazine! Before we dive into the Q&A mosh-pit, how is the back-half of 2024 treating you and yours?

Hello to you and your readers, first of all I want to thank you very much for giving me the opportunity to share with you a little of my great love which is none other than music. This summer finds me in my wonderful island of Rhodes where and I live, counting countless hours in my studio, constantly creating new melodies.

Major congratulations on your freshly-minted new single Home In Goa which is dominating the airwaves even as we speak! Starting at the tip-top, can you talk about what inspired this infectious anthem?

Recently my whole life has been in a studio writing songs all the time. House in Goa was clearly inspired by the trending sounds at the time. I made the song this summer and rushed to release it as I really believe in this song. I have other songs ready that I haven’t released yet, they’ll come out as soon as I think they’re ready.

Did you do the producing honors on Home In Goa and, if so, what are the pros to serving as your own producer versus outsourcing the task to someone else?

Making something of your own has nothing to do with getting something ready from someone else. All these years that I’ve been involved in music production I knew the easy way, but I preferred the difficult uphill one, the one where I know it would lead to better music.

In your humble opinion, what differentiates Home In Goa from the Distinguished Competition on the 2024 music scene?

This is what I would like the audience to answer when they hear my new song 🙂

You hail from the Mediterranean island of Rhodes! How do those particular stomping grounds inform the sound of your music?

Music has no boundaries, geography or standards, music is a way of life and this way of life I try to pass on to my listeners.

Who inspires you, musically-speaking?

There are certainly many well-known music producers who influence me, but if you asked me to single out someone, it would be Who is Argy, also from my island of Rhodes.

In the wake of the release of Home In Goa, can fans look forward to a possible EP or LP release from you before the end of the year?

Yes as I mentioned above there are many ready tracks ready for release, the big problem for me is which one to release first as the choice is very difficult. The only thing that is certain is that I will release at least one more song by the end of the year.

What does your touring and performing dance card look like in the coming weeks and months?

At the moment I am in discussions with some clubs in Greece and I am organizing my tour with my manager.

When working on new material, what does your creative process generally tend to look like? Is there rhyme and reason to the creative madness, or is it a bit more freeform than all of that?

Every time I make a song it’s a creative madness like you say. I like to try new things with production and I dare every time to marry sounds that will make a difference to the listener’s ear.

At the end of the day, what do you hope listeners walk away with after giving many-a-spin to your rousing new single Home In Goa?

I want the listeners of this song to dance non-stop to it wherever they hear it, there is no greater satisfaction for a producer than that.
