Griff Galexxzee, formerly known as DCG, has been a part of the music scene for over a decade, working with Toronto talent like Drake when he was just 16. After his debut album DC’s Comments missed out on a Grammy nomination, Griff Galexxzee stepped back from music for six years. But during the pandemic, he reignited his passion, rebranding as Griff Galexxzee in tribute to his “out of this world” harmonies. Shifting his style to a blend of Pop, Funk, and R&B, which he calls Hip Pop, Griff honored his late mother’s wish for him to sing more. Now, he’s gaining commercial success and being compared to legends like Akon, Michael Jackson, and Pharrell.
Recently, Griff Galexxzee dropped his empowering single “New Style,” encouraging women to embrace their confidence. With over 15 years in the industry, Griff Galexxzee brings influences from his Toronto and Ghanaian roots, as well as the music he grew up with—think Michael Jackson and U2. His journey in music became even more meaningful after the loss of his mother, a huge supporter of his dream. Known for his emphasis on melody and versatility, Griff Galexxzee’s previous projects, like Facts Over Feelings, earned over 600,000 streams, with his single “You Right” landing in the Top 15 on iTunes. His latest release, “New Style,” is now available on all streaming platforms.
In an interview with Rast Sounds, Griff shared more about “New Style,” revealing how the track came together in just three minutes, starting with a melody. Inspired by his mother and nieces, the song is about building confidence and self-love, especially for women. Growing up in a family with diverse musical tastes gave Griff Galexxzee the freedom to experiment with different genres, allowing each project to reflect his mood or what’s inspiring him at the moment. Reflecting on Facts Over Feelings, Griff credits its success to the relatable themes in his music. He enjoys collaborating with artists from all walks of life and is proud of moments like when “You Right” charted on iTunes. Describing “New Style” as a fun, upbeat track, Griff Galexxzee hopes the song’s catchy melody leaves listeners feeling empowered.
