1.) We’re super-excited to be speaking today with acclaimed London alt-rockers CALL TO THE VOID; greetings and salutations gang and welcome to Vents Magazine! Before we dive into the Q&A mosh-pit, could you all say ‘hi’ and introduce yourselves to our ever-inquisitive reading audience?

Hey Readers, Thanks for having us! I’m Jack Osborne, I write, sing & shout my mouth off for Call To The Void.

Hey, I am John Settle and I play Bass, and along with the rest of the band I write and arrange the music.

Hi Everyone, I’m John McGlade, music writer and guitar player for Call To The Void!

Hey people! I’m Glen Bartholomew, aka the drummer. I make noise and keep the groove for CTTV. 🤘🏻

2.) Major congratulations on the freshly-minted new single Viper’s Venom which is set to drop this September 13! Jack, what served as the inspiration for this gem of a ditty?

Thanks Guys! We’re really excited to share it with everyone. ‘Vipers’ was actually originally titled ‘The Waiting Game’. It was written whilst stuck in the constraints of the pandemic and locked down. Forced to evaluate the constance of time and coming face to face with a fear of death. It’s a dark, emotional but somewhat liberating piece.

3.) John M., who did the producing honors on Viper’s Venom and what did the in-studio collaboration process between band and producer look like while fashioning and shaping the new track?

Viper’s was somewhat self produced. We entered Bonafide Studio in North London with the song very much complete and a shared vision for how we wanted the song to sound. However Studio owner and sound wizard Brian Bogdanovic pulled the very best out of us, helping us mould it to the sizable track it became, none of us ever imagined our little song could sound so big. Brian has a very calming influence and creates a comfortable space for us to all bounce ideas off of each other.

4.) John S., the companion music video for Viper’s Venom is one of the best we’ve seen in eons; congrats! How involved was CALL TO THE VOID in the behind-the-scenes production of the video?

Thank you! We were completely involved. The video was totally DIY, with the help of family filming us at two carefully chosen locations, Jack’s creative vision was brought to life. Jack also edited the entire thing together. It was a fun day filming and hanging out to be honest.

5.) Glen, in your humble opinion what differentiates Viper’s Venom from the Distinguished Competition on the 2024 music scene?

I think this song has a cool ‘old school’ sound. Jack’s vocals and lyrics are also very distinctive as he doesn’t really sound like anyone out there which brings an edge to CTTV.

6.) A question for all of you: Who are you inspired by, musically-speaking?

Jack:
Voice’s and writers like Bowie & Jim Morrison have definitely influenced me, and also hugely inspired by the voice and words of Stevie Nicks but great friend of mine Tairrie B Murphy and her bands Manhole/Tura Satana & My Ruin started it all for me when discovering my passion for the heavy side of rock. More recently I’m super excited by ‘SOFT PLAY’,  their new album is phenomenal.

Settle:
The sound of the Seattle 90’s scene made me want to play music.  I am also a massive Joy Divison fan.  My influences range from punk through to metal!

John M: Trivium is one of my favourite bands and they influence me a lot,  although it may not be that obvious as we aren’t a full on heavy metal band. Also love the guitar playing of James Dean Bradfield from the Manic Street Preachers too.

Glen:  Dave Grohl (Nirvana days) was the reason I started playing drums really, then bands like Mudvayne, Tool, One Minute Silence, Killswitch Engage, Soundgarden to name a few, helped to shape my drumming style. I like to bring energy and power to our live shows!

7.) Jack, with the release of the new single, can fans look forward to a possible EP or LP release before the end of ‘24, or perhaps sometime in early 2025?

Yes, That’s definitely the plan. Early this summer we recorded another 3 tracks all unreleased and we are due to get back into the studio in October to record a Cover song with a little surprise… all of which we plan to pull together in an EP when the time is right. Some exciting things ahead!

8.) John M., what does the touring/performing dance card look like for CALL TO THE VOID in the coming weeks and months?

We are headlining The famous ‘Camden Assembly’, for the second consecutive time, Saturday 28th September, and hope to play again leading up to the Christmas period. It would be great to play a couple of festivals in 2025!

9.) John S., CALL TO THE VOID hails from the bustling burg of London, England! How do those particular stomping grounds inform the energy and excitement of the band?

The City has such an eclectic music history, I think we are all widely influenced by so many different eras and bands that birthed in London. Especially when playing in Camden Town. So much musical history there, and such community, you can’t help but tap into that energy.

10.) Glen, at the end of the day what do you hope listeners walk away with after giving many-a-spin to the brilliant new CALL TO THE VOID single Viper’s Venom?

I hope they like it enough to check out the rest of the tracks, like it enough to come and see us play live and follow us as we have some awesome tracks coming up!
