The Best Kind Of Acting Job

I’ve never wanted to be an actor, but there is one kind of acting gig I would like to have. That would be being a recurring featured extra on a TV show.

This came to mind because of all the watching of Moonlighting I have been doing. For the first two seasons and some change, the show only has three regular characters: Maddie and David, and then also Agnes DiPesto. However, they are the only three people who work at Blue Moon Detective Agency. No, the agency is staffed with several people. They just aren’t really characters. Instead, they are featured background actors.

It’s always the same people. They do business in the background, and sometimes the foreground. They get comedic bits to do, like fighting one another, or putting on sunglasses in unison. Sometimes they are even mentioned by name, though I don’t know if those names remain the same. Oh, and they don’t get lines. Or, they speak in unison once out of eight episodes. I can count on one hand the actual lines any of them have had.

That’s some acting I can do. Just hang out on camera doing busy work. No lines to learn. Just some business to do. Of course, I can’t work on Moonlighting. That means no conga lines behind David Addison. Ah well.
