I listen to podcasts while I work. I listen to them all the live long day. It used to be that bad movie podcasts, multiples, were in the mix. Now, I don’t listen to any bad movie podcasts. That felt like a sea change, but then I realized I was still getting that fix in a different way.
It’s not that I have grown tired of lampoon bad movies. Rarely do I have time to watch a “so bad it’s good” film myself, but comedy on top of that is still worthwhile if it’s good. The problem is the bad movie podcasts I really enjoyed got less good. How Did This Get Made? went all live episode, and I am not a big fan of live podcasts. The Flop House…just started to get annoying. That’s happened to me with several podcasts over the years. That’s not abnormal after years of listening for me.
I tried a couple others, but none took, and then I realized the itch was being scratched. That’s thanks to the MST3K channel on YouTube. Instead of listening to a podcast where they break down a bad movie I have probably never seen, I’m listening (and occasionally watching in fits and starts) to jokes being made over the movie. Yes, I’ve seen all the episodes before, but that’s fine. It makes for excellent background listening.
Podcasts are still part of my routine, but to less of a degree. Meanwhile, the rise of the streaming YouTube channel has become a bigger part of my work life. Reruns never die. Also, quit it with the live podcasts, podcasters. Audiences don’t add to the equation.
