First Day of Spring is back with their emphatic new offering ‘The Rising Tide’, the second single to be released from their forthcoming EP. The 5-piece is gearing up for an exciting 2024 as they bring their unique brand of cathartic, grit–rock back to the airwaves.
The track starts with a near-haunting guitar riff before the storm of guitar feedback makes way for the raw energy to unfold. The steady bassline and pummeling drums make for a rigid rhythmic backbone, allowing the guitars to fire off cutting riffs with ease. Musically ‘The Rising Tide’ pays homage to the indie revival of the late nineties, whilst holding a firm grip on that post-punk attitude. The track manages to blend the dirty grit of shoegaze with the chic alternative nature of bands such as Fontaines DC and Pixies. It’s this clean-cut production and dedicated attitude that cements First Day Of Spring as a dominant force in their game. The Casablancas-esque vocal distortion gives the track its distinctive authority, whilst the poetry tells tales of authenticity and self-reliance.
Speaking about the track, the band discuss how the new release “is about observing your surroundings and finding a place internally, where you can feel authentic in your own thoughts”. The band are not afraid to experiment with their music, their bona fide approach to music-making resonates with listeners and has already landed them airtime on BBC 6 Music as well as MTV UK.
