Hailing from Kolkata, India, Aruna has performed alongside X-Factor finalists and acclaimed composer Jools Holland. Taking inspiration from pop icons across multiple decades, the artist forges her own path, something tipped by a range of respected publications.
Continuing to champion diversity whilst channelling her inner Avril Lavigne, Aruna now unveils ‘thoughts & therapy’, a track that is rebellious as the title implies, Aruna’s delivery of a clamouring set of melodies is nothing short of addictive. The chugging guitars and punchy drums, alongside short clips of telephone-filtered sound bites, make for some serious 2000s nostalgia, a more than welcome addition to the pop-punk revolution emerging. A fierce songwriting and fiery performer Aruna continues to break down boundaries.
“thoughts & therapy is a coming-of-age tune which represents a time at which I was trying to figure out how to navigate the world on my own again after a break-up,” Aruna explains. “At nearly 26, I’m still not sure what it means to be an adult – this is the chaos I hoped to encapsulate by juxtaposing tearful and heart wrenching moments from my real life alongside the more sarcastic and bratty tongue-in-cheek lyrics. The older I grow, the more I realise that all of us are simply works in progress, and within the never-ending process of realising our true selves, we can all come across as ‘the villain’ sometimes. While in those moments, it’s okay to feel like the victim for a bit, it’s all about finding your own redemption-arc by taking accountability for your own happiness.”
