Paolo Ruiu’s dark dreams appear in EP Last Out

Sardinian-Brit raised in South London, Paolo Ruiu’s first soirée into the music industry was as one-half of Young Romance. Embarking on a new solo journey, taking the time to explore his own emotions, desires and musical thoughts.

Paolo’s latest EP, the follow-up to his impressive debut Low, is Last Out, a movement of music filled with thought-provoking atmospheres and powerful soundscapes. Paolo’s balance of raw indie rock and hazy, dreamlike arrangements filled with electronic influence and a rich backbeat, allows his to transcend the music and deliver his themes through the pure emotion of his performance.

The glittering synths contrast with energising distorted guitar, the pair occasionally at odds, but often finding a rich sonic solace, that drives the rest of the atmosphere. Paolo’s vocal performances are pensive and light, a shoegaze shadow falling on his words for a poetic, otherworldly tendency.

Sharing his thoughts on the release, Paolo adds, ”The EP reflects a variety of themes, for which I wanted to explore the darker edges, using heavy saturation, multiple distortions and echoes, and pushing further than previously with the detuning of synths and guitars”
