Producer, arranger, multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter. These are all titles you can attribute to New York-based talent Jerry Jean. Performing across iconic venues and broadcasts, including Carnegie Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, MTV Unplugged and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Jerry has already cemented a musical representation for impressive delivery. Back in the driver’s seat with more solo music on the horizon, Jerry looks ahead to his second full-length album, after an award-winning debut in Do We Reach Home.
A positive message echoing throughout the atmosphere, Jerry Jean’s latest single, ‘Lean In’ comes with a collaboration with a range of musicians, most notably Grammy-winning jazz vocalist Nicole Zuraitis. Jerry’s message is delivered through rich, funk-filled grooves and energised performances, each player evidently losing themselves in the music to present the most natural and authentic experience of soulful fun. The themes speak to living in the moment, enjoying the world as it gets to you, and not leaving your mind stuck somewhere else than the here and now.
With such gracious thematic points, it takes a moment to realise the intricacies of the arrangement below, the rising tide of vocals, the fluttering saxophone melodies, the empowered groove of the bass line and the piano holding it all together, its earnest and impassioned from the kick drum to the top line.
”I wrote Lean In as a reminder to be fully present in whichever stage of life you’re in,” Jerry adds. “To inhabit the now and not dwell on the past or the future. Life’s incredibly dynamic when you’re committed to the now, and I tried to capture this vibrancy with Lean In.”
