Dolce Blue is set to release their new single, ‘Typical Kind of Fun,’ on May 30th. This dreamy indie rock track, characterised by its slow and steady rhythm, features delicate vocals that will resonate with fans of Lana Del Rey and Arctic Monkeys. The song, a nostalgic nod to their previous releases ‘Nothing Bad’ and ‘Dream Catcher,’ contrasts sharply with the upbeat tempo of their March hit, ‘Sugar Free.’ ‘Typical Kind of Fun’ showcases a laid-back vintage flair, driven by moody guitar grooves and echoing vocal harmonies. Frontwoman Veronica’s emotive lyrics blend seamlessly with drummer Brody Honey’s sombre vocal tones, resulting in a wistful duet that forms the heart of the single.
Reflecting on the song’s creation, Veronica shares, “Brody came to me with some songs he had started writing, one of them was just a snippet which is the opening few lines of ‘Typical Kind of Fun’ that I felt really drawn to. I could relate to the idea of somebody having a hold on you and the disappointment and betrayal of finding out that that person is not really who you thought they were, so I expanded on it to form the rest of the song.” Initially written during the early days of crafting their upcoming album ‘Sweet Melancholy,’ the track didn’t make it onto the original LP. However, Veronica is thrilled that they finally recorded it, noting, “it’s always just a song that’s stuck in my head, and I’m glad that we’ve finally recorded it and Brody’s built up the confidence to share his singing voice!”
Originating from Kalamunda, Western Australia, Dolce Blue has been captivating audiences since their emergence in 2018. Their debut single ‘New White Sneakers’ and the subsequent album ‘Forever Is Too Long’ laid the foundation for their melancholic yet engaging sound. Their growing reputation has been bolstered by support from local institutions like RTRFM 92.1 and national radio coverage, leading to their signing with Blue Grey Pink. Having toured nationwide and played at BIGSOUND 2023, Dolce Blue is destined for a remarkable 2024. As they gear up for the release of the deluxe edition of ‘Sweet Melancholy,’ ‘Typical Kind of Fun’ serves as a preview of what’s to come.
