Turning A Snack Food Into A Film A La Pop Tarts

Jerry Seinfeld was not fully deterred by The Bee Movie. While his first foray into film mostly has lived on as a meme. He doesn’t need to work. Seinfeld has made him ludicrously wealthy many times over. Netflix likes being in the Seinfeld business, though, so it has given him the chance to write and direct Unfrosted, which is ostensibly a movie about Pop Tarts, but is really something of a parody of the weird rise in product-based films. The Cheetos movie, the Nike movie, et al. It’s all effectively (not-so) stealth marketing, which feels a little unctuous at its worst. Seinfeld is likely mostly riffing on that, though his affinity for Pop Tarts is also known.

I began to ponder what product I would most like to see a movie about. Personally, I’m thinking of something in the vein of Unfrosted, because the serious versions of these films are not pursuant to my interests. Something like Pepsi Clear, a flop, might be fun. Ultimately, though, I decided on Dunkaroos. Mostly that is because it is a fun, semi-esoteric reference. It’s an oh-so-very-‘90s idea. Also, you could get a kangaroo involved. Why? Why not? It’s not intended to be serious. Neither is Unfrosted. There would be plenty of frosting in the Dunkaroos movie, though (but not as much as you want as a kid).
