The Publics release the climactic single ‘Gaslighter’

Supported as must-sees in their local scene, The Publics have supported The Sherlocks and The Lottery Winners, headlined Rescue Rooms and The Bodega, and performed at YNOT?, Splendour and Camper Calling, the five-piece slowly becoming Nottingham’s indie-rock finest. Inspired by Catfish and the Bottlemen, The Killers and Arctic Monkeys, their contemporary sparkle falls on a layer of organic ruggedness, making their sound a truly arena-level experience.

With a roaring drum rhythm, dynamic distortion for the bass and rhythms guitars and a flying lead melody that feels both distant and energised, the opening seconds to The Publics’ latest single ‘Gaslighter’ set the scene for a raw rock anthem. The lead vocals come in with a balance of sung performance and spoken accusations, welding an emotive passion to the melodic lines.

Each chorus arrives with a soaring climax, breaking up the aggression of the verses with a passionate torrent of feelings, heartbreak, love, and fury all pour out of the speakers, fully embracing the rough and ready atmosphere with real affection and despairing sentiment.

The Publics share, “Gaslighter tells the story of a young man’s transition into fatherhood as he struggles to leave behind his troublesome former life. We aimed to portray the rift in the central characters focuses through the contrast of soaring choral backing vocals and sharp guitar solos.  The track is designed with festivals in mind, particularly the drum intro which not only sets the tone for the single’s energy but aims to capture the attention of new listeners. We’ve already performed the track live on numerous occasions and received some incredible feedback. We’re really excited to be putting this one out into the world!”
