Drowsy driving is a dangerous behavior that significantly increases the risk of car accidents. When an individual operates a vehicle when they are tired then their cognitive functions become impaired and thus it leads to various hazardous situations on the road.   • Decreased Alertness and Reaction Time: When you are tired, there is decreased alertness and the reaction time is also low. Therefore, you would be slow to notice and respond to any changes in traffic conditions such as sudden stops, pedestrians walking on the road, merging vehicles and other such things. This delayed reaction time leads to rear-end collisions, sideswipes, or other such types of accidents. 
  • Impaired Decision-Making: Drowsy driving can impair the decision-making ability of the driver which can lead to poor judgment on the road. A sleep-deprived person can make risky decisions like speeding the vehicle, driving too closely to other vehicles, overtaking in unsafe conditions and other such situations. These reckless behaviours can increase the risk of accidents. 
  • Drifting Out Lanes: If a driver is drowsy, then they may pay less attention to lane markings and road signs and this can lead to unintentional lane departures. It increases the risk of sideswipe collisions, or the drowsy driver may collide with fixed objects such as barriers. 
  • Microsleep Episodes: When a person is drowsy and feeling sleepy very often, then they are more susceptible to experiencing microsleep episodes. These microsleeps are the brief period of unconsciousness that lasts for a few seconds. When there is a microsleep, the driver may close the eyes and temporarily become unavailable for a few minutes. This makes them unaware of their surroundings and it can happen without warnings thus it is very dangerous to drive in such conditions. 
  • Inattention to Traffic Signals and Signs: Fatigueness can impair the driver’s ability to process and respond to traffic signals and therefore, create a critical situation on the roads. If there is a sleep-deprived person, then they may miss warning signs, stop signs, red lights and other such signs.
