Mississippi Bred Artist Jones Makes Music History Being Named In New State Legislation

Singer, songwriter and creative Jones is the definition of hard work and determination. Coming from humble beginnings, Jones’ Mississippi upbringing has prepared him for a long lasting career as a high quality music artist. As he holds the Magnolia State close to his heart, you can hear the deep south influence on most of his records. Just like Elvis Presley, and Oprah Winfrey who were also born in Mississippi, Jones is carving out a legacy that his entire family will be able to indulge in long after he is gone. Part of his legacy has to do with the state of Mississippi’s legislation.

Recently it was announced that Mississippi passed House Bill HR 139, acknowledging Mississippi as the home and birthplace of the southern soul music genre. This legislation includes many influential artists and musicians that have poured into the genre in a positive and uplifting way. One of the talents mentioned in this bill is none other than Jones. Some of the language includes “WHEREAS, each artist, in their unique way, has passionately contributed their voices to the Southern Soul genre, showcasing their talents and sharing their musical gifts with every performance and platform offered to them.” This by far is the biggest accolade he has received in his professional career.

It is no surprise that his first major release of this year “Rush” debuted at number 33 on the itunes R&B charts, reaffirming his fruitful journey through music. Jones will be joining the ranks of some of the most influential people to ever come out of Mississippi. His twill continue to shine as he never forgets where he comes from.
