INTERVIEW: Barbara Nadas

We’re very excited to have some time today with acclaimed singer and songwriter Barbara Nadas; greetings and salutations and welcome to Vents Magazine, Barbara! Before we start talking about the amazing new music you have on the way, how would you describe your indelible musical stylings to a new fan just discovering you and your music? Listening to you, we hear the sweet refrains of everything from Pop to Soul, but would you describe yourself as a Pop or Soul artist?

Thank you so much for having me Vent Magazine. I’d describe my music as a blend of Pop and Soul, with melodies that resonate deeply. While I draw inspiration from various genres, my sound is uniquely. I call it organized chaos where every song has its own identity but somehow, they still are a whole together.

Major kudos and accolades on the freshly-minted new release of your remix version of your original tune SOAR as well as its stunning companion music video! Starting at the top, how did the original version of SOAR come about and what led to your decision to do this incredible remix version?

The original version of “SOAR” came about through a collaboration with Aaron Kamin. It was a pleasure creating together with such an amazing writer. The decision to do the remix version was driven by a desire to explore new dimensions of the song and bring fresh energy to it. I love house music so first I wanted to do a cover, but then we were like “why don’t we make a remix of original?”, and it came out something that I’ve always wanted to do, love this version and I had to complete it with music video which came out amazing.

The gent doing the producing honors on the SOAR remix is the highly respected DJ and producer Tom Martin! What was it like collaborating with Tom on this gem of a ditty?
Collaborating with Tom Martin on the remix of “SOAR” was an incredible experience. His expertise and creativity brought a whole new dynamic to the song, elevating it to new heights. When he first sent over his version I was sitting in a cafe and listening to the song on headphones, I immediately jumped in my car and went home, so I could listen the song on good speakers, I love the hook that Tom made from my voice.

We’re absolutely in love with the companion music video for the SOAR remix; congratulations! Did you have as much fun working on the music video as we did in watching it?
Working on the music video for “SOAR” was an absolute blast. It was a creative journey bringing the visuals to life. The starting point of the video clip was that dress I dreamed of. I had this idea to completely revamp a wedding dress into a vibrant, colorful masterpiece using paint. Collaborating with a local abstract artist, we embarked on the journey to “destroy” and transform the dress. Working with Cserbik Rita Art was a natural fit as we both share a colorful personality, making the creative process seamless. It’s been incredibly rewarding to see how much viewers are enjoying the finished product as much as we enjoyed bringing it to life.

In your humble opinion, what differentiates the SOAR remix from the Distinguished Competition on the 2024 music scene?
What sets the “SOAR” remix apart is its unique blend of uplifting energy and soulful depth. It stands out in the 2024 music scene with its infectious vibe and heartfelt lyrics, not to mention the collaboration with Tom Martin was incredible and how he made it into a summer song.

Word ‘round industry campfire has it that you’re inching towards an EP release this coming June; congrats again! Can you give our ever-inquisitive readers a hint or three as to what they can expect and look forward to with the upcoming EP?
Thank you! With the upcoming EP, listeners can expect a diverse range of songs that showcase different facets of my artistry. There will be moments of introspection, empowerment, and pure musical joy. There will be songs I pour out my soul, and also songs I sing about social issues like environmental change.

Who inspires you musically?
I’m inspired by a wide range of musicians, from legendary artists like Amy Winehouse, Aretha Franklin, to contemporary talents who push boundaries and defy genre conventions.

What does your touring/performing dance card look like in the coming weeks and months?
I’m getting ready to perform in Los Angeles in June. The best is if you dm me on Instagram @barbaranadas to get more information about locations and tickets. In late July and August, I’m also preparing some gigs in middle Europe. I can’t wait to connect with audiences and share my music live.

You hail from Hungary and England. How do those seemingly disparate roots inform you as both an artist and as a person?
My Hungarian and English roots have shaped both my artistry and my personal identity. They contribute to the richness and diversity of my music, allowing me to draw from a variety of cultural influences.

As a noted singer and songwriter, which generally comes first for you: The lyrics or the music?
In ideal cases the lyrics and the melody come together. I usually have the message of the song first, what I want to send as a message out there into the world than it defines the lyrics and the genre also. But it can happen as well that I just get a good melody to go with, or I write a lyric with a simple melody that I can polish later.

At the end of the day, what do you hope listeners walk away with after giving many-a-spin to your beautiful new SOAR remix?
After listening to the “SOAR” remix, I hope listeners feel uplifted, empowered, and inspired to embrace their own journey of self-discovery and growth. “I can’t hold back what’s in my bones”. You can try to go against your fate, but never forget what is for you will not pass you.
