Over the course of the long and winding path which is the history of television, there have been a lot of really great series, yet not nearly as many great series finales. Of course, everyone and their uncle loved the finale for M*A*S*H, and Distinguished Competition like Six Feet Under, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Newhart, St. Elsewhere, The Wonder Years (original version) and – I’ll die on this hill (apparently alone) – LOST can all make really good and compelling arguments on the emotional power and sheer creativity of their closing chapters. Yet when it comes time to make the case for the single best series finale in the history of the boob tube medium, it’s a bit like apples and oranges and no one would dare lay claim to being the absolute best finale…unless your name happens to be actor Ian Bohen and you’re one of the stars on outgoing series Yellowstone.
From our Pepsi Taste Test pals over at The Hollywood Reporter comes the news that actor Ian Bohen is already laying claim to his hit series Yellowstone as having the very “best series finale in history.”
Geez, hyperbole much?
This declaration by Bohen is intriguing news in that the Kevin Costner-led ensemble has yet to even go into production on that highly anticipated concluding storyline. So , what’s Ian going on about, one might wonder?
In a recent sit-down with those gremlins over at Entertainment Tonight, Ian Bohen (who essays the role of ‘Ryan’ in Yellowstone) said that “fans are going to get the [best] conclusion that could possibly be written…Everything will land in a way that is perfectly set,” he maintained. “A lot of shows just kind of finish… and they don’t satisfy you. This will be completed in a way that it will make sense.”
The above comments from Bohen especially resound considering the turmoil that Yellowstone has been rocked with lately when it comes to the tense dance between the show’s star Kevin Costner and series guru Taylor Sheridan. Costner has famously been AWOL from the show in recent months in order to focus on what is regarded as his major passion project, the four movie saga known as Horizon. These absences have slowed down production of the popular series, and forced Sheridan and Co. to do some major rewriting to work around their star’s other work commitments.
Bohen concluded his thoughts on the Yellowstone finale humbly, carefully measuring his words: “I don’t know that any show has finished this strongly ever. We’re expecting to have the best series finale in history. Overconfident maybe, but I think that’s what it’s going to be. We thank everyone for their patience… It’ll be worth the wait, I promise.”
Production for the back-half of Season 5 – the final episodes – of Yellowstone is projected to kick off this May.
