After returning from a 25-year musical hiatus in 2020, Simon Marroco aka Samskara Rad swapped out his prog-punk grit for emotionally driven and luminous hip-hop influences, creating music with clean production and high-energy performances. Alongside his artistry, Simon is the founder of one of the biggest yoga schools in Australia, St.Kilda Yoga School.
Samskara’s latest release, however, is not the high-octane power that fans are used to. His new single ‘Only Fan’, is a dreamy reimagining of last year’s ‘BIGGEST FAN’, injecting the track with soft synth, plucks, flowing drum rhythms and warm bass movement. The track gains a lot of evocative frequencies through this process, echoed in Samskara’s rich and vulnerable vocal performance, decorating the loving atmosphere with honesty and infatuation. Though it’s a new avenue for the artist, especially off the back of the recent single ‘Walk Te’Jo’, it’s an alluring one, and it’ll be exciting to hear more.
Samskara adds, “A dreamy lullaby bubblegum version of Biggest Fan. For me, it’s hard to do slower-paced songs, as I’m always in the minute and driven by energy. So, writing Only Fan taught me how to create emptiness and space in a song and still be energetic, but with a different emotional vibe.”
