INTERVIEW: Barstool Confession

How would you classify your music?

We would classify our music as a hybrid of rock and new age country.  Recently we have moved into more of a country/rock genre with our new music.

Who are some of your top 5 musical influences?

With our earlier music, our influences vary with members of the band but range with Canadian bands such as The Tragically Hip, City and Colour, Rush and Blue Rodeo.  Our international artists influences include Tom Petty, Kings of Leons and Collective Soul.  With our recent music being written, recorded and released, we are finding ourselves influenced by more country/rock style of artists including Nate Smith, Koe Wetzel, Cory Kent and Dylan Scott.

What do you want fans to take from your music?

We want our fans to enjoy every aspect of a song right from the starting note to the final note and enjoying the journey along the way with all the ear candy and uniqueness of each song.  Not only do we want the listener to enjoy the writing style of the songs but also enjoy the lyrics and their messages, but taking a musical journey while enjoying the melodies that make the songs etch a spot in the memory so the listener finds themselves humming it hours after hearing our music.

How’s the music scene in your locale?

The music scene in Ontario, Canada is booming with multiple festivals and venues hosting live music. We are very fortunate that we’ve been able to be on regular rotation with bars in our local for several years.  Now we’re starting to venture into playing more festivals and opening for larger acts.  This allows us to get our music in the ears of more listeners and gain more followers when they see our shows and that our live music is just as good as our recorded music.

What is the best concert you have been to? What do you like most about playing live?

There are so many concerts that the members of this band have been to that are meaningful an have been great experiences. We are very fortunate that we all take in a lot of live music and can appreciate the talent with so many artists and so many genres of music. It’s hard to pinpoint what concert was the best because each brings such amazing concepts and such unique music experiences.   We’d have to say that outdoor festivals can bring a different energy than an indoor arena concert.  One of our favourites in Canada is Boots & Hearts.  It’s a beauty!

The thing we like most about playing live is seeing the audiences enjoying our music and to see them dancing and singing along to tunes. We feed off the energy of the audience for sure.  Especially if they are singing our music back to us.

Is there a song on your latest CD release here that stands out as your personal favorite, and why?

Our latest release TAMED, stands out as one of our new favourites. It’s unique for us to be moving into the country/rock genre and we’ve really found that we love the sound of our new music and are very excited for people to hear our newest releases and how we are evolving as a band.

How have you evolved as an artist over the last year?

We have evolved as artists over the last year by starting to change our music from a rock genre  into a more country/rock genre that can be described as “hybrid” that can be enjoyed by a wider variety of people and audiences. Working with such an amazing Producer on our latest music (Tamed and Lead You Back) has made us better musicians and made us very excited about this journey in making music.

If you could meet, play a gig, co-write a song, have dinner, have a drink with any band or artist (dead or alive) who would it be?

Each of us in the band would have a different persons/influences that would be unique to meet and create music with. For me, as a singer/song writer, I have been heavily influenced by The Tragically Hip (out of Canada) and would have really enjoyed the opportunity to make music with the past Gord Downie.  Knowing the other members of this band, I’m sure all of them would have amazing musicians as their influences and that they would enjoy spending time with to create music and learn from them.

What’s next for you?

We are very excited with our new music that is being released to have it reach a wider audience and start to develop new followers and listeners that will appreciate not only the music but the lyrics and their meanings. We are also excited that as our music starts to catch on and gain traction, that we can start to play larger venues and be and opener for bigger acts. We’ve been blessed to work with an amazing producer (Michael Jack), who has worked with some amazing musicians over the last 37 years. With his guidance and influence in our new music, we believe that our new music will be loved by listeners as the music starts to get traction on radio waves and streaming platforms.  What’s even more exciting….will be playing this new music live to a wider audience in the future.
