Devin Millar dipped his toes into the murky waters of AI and used it for his music video “Unconditional Love” which came out the same week as it’s song release.
This song and video pay homage to My Life As A Teenage Robot which was a show from Nickelodeon created by Rob Renzetti. The show is about a robot girl named Jenny, or her technical name, XJ-9. She goes to high school wanting to live as a normal teenager and balance her life as a superhero. The music video is live-action and is inspired by this show, and Devin watched it when he was younger.
The music video did not use actors and did not even use cameras, but prompts and software instead. That is artificial intelligence, which can be unsettling to some due to the “uncanny valley” but it was a miracle that a video could be created using it. Fans of this show took notice of Devin’s work and there was a mixed response due to the usage of AI. Despite this response, this was a technological advancement for music videos, and the song’s positivity makes up for it, other Devin Millar fans enjoy and appreciate this more.
The video follows through story of a girl who saves the town from a violent green monster. She celebrates it with her friends at a sleepover and dances at her high school. Her friends bear a resemblance to Brad and Tuck, who are characters from My Life As A Teenage Robot and almost every character in this video parallels was inspired by them.
The song and it’s music video are on YouTube, on Devin’s YouTube channel, and has 35,000 views since it’s upload, and 1 million views on his TikTok page. You can see it for yourself.
