Perfectly executed and immaculately arranged, Lovely Colours have woven thick guitars, anthemic vocals, and bracing indie-pop into an undeniable, arena-ready whole, and all of this can be found in their new single “BUMFUZZLE,” which we are pleased to premiere today.
About the song, Devin comments “Bumfuzzle was one of those songs that just fell out of the sky in the middle of the writing process for this album. The chorus came to me while playing on the piano one day in my garage studio. For a long time, I had a giant Sgt. Peppers poster right above my garage studio computer and I think subconsciously that informed some of the songwriting during that period. This song definitely has a ‘A Day in The Life’ feel with the upbeat piano, while still somehow being the heaviest song we’ve released yet. The chorus lends itself to a one huge singalong, when writing it I was hoping that someday we could play it in a club and have the crowd sing it back to us. Like we’re all commiserating together. The lyrics detail struggles with ADHD/Anxiety, not being able to get out of bed and the race against time but still feeling hopeful you’ll get a shot eventually.”
James adds “BUMFUZZLE is another favorite off the album and a brand-new vibe for an LC track. It’s one of the fuzziest and heaviest songs on the record but also has one of the poppiest and most sing-along choruses we’ve written. Musically, I feel like influences from Queens of the Stone Age, American Idiot-era Green Day and Black Parade-era My Chem come out a little bit here. There’s a dark, eerie, and almost theatrical feel to the verses that explode into the big anthemic chorus and bridge sections. I’m proud of the production and mix I got on this one and can’t wait for people to blast it. It’s a true rocker”
