Original Wonder Woman Lynda Carter Makes Impassioned Plea for Fans to Rescue “Wonder Woman 3” from the Scrap Heap

Though actress Gal Gadot gets all of the plaudits in this day and age as the ultimate personification of DC Comics character Wonder Woman, many four-colored fans still carry quite the torch for trailblazing thespian Lynda Carter who brought the lariat-twirling heroine to life during the 1975-’79 ABC/CBS television run. And though it’s all apples and oranges from our side of the fence – hey, we love both takes on the William Moulton Marston/H.G. Peter-created citizen of Paradise Island – it’s Gadot’s possible future take (or not) on the mystery woman going forward in the newly reimagined James Gunn and Peter Safran DC Film Universe which is prompting Lynda Carter to come forward and make a particularly impassioned plea for moviegoers and comic book lovers across the globe to support a third outing with Gal Gadot as the Amazonian princess.

From our Lyta Hall fanatics over at Variety comes the news today that O.G. Wonder Woman (and a featured actress in Wonder Woman 1984) Lynda Carter is making a case for the continuation of Gal Gadot’s version of Diana Prince. As unlikely as that notion might now seem in light of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new vision for the characters in the cinematic DC Universe, Carter isn’t quite ready to go gentle into that good night (Crisis On Infinite Earths-style).

Ina  far-ranging interview reported on by Variety, Carter hinted at what might have been if only director Patty Jenkins had been given another time at bat for Wonder Woman 3, calling the unproduced script  “really interesting, wonderful and about something important. Not just your typical thing.”

In a call-to-arms to movie fanatics everywhere, Carter stressed the urgency for folks who genuinely want to see a next chapter with Gadot as Wonder Woman to let their desire and passion be known to the Powers That Be over at Warner-Discovery.

“I don’t think they want to do it unless there’s enough pressure from fans,” Carter explained. “I just don’t think they have the mind to do it. And I don’t understand that, because it seems to me that Wonder Woman is different from other characters. She’s not just a superhero. Her whole thing is about peaceful solutions. She’s not aggressive to be aggressive. It’s a different story. It’s about inner strength, outer strength. I don’t know why they tabled it, because it’s a great franchise.”

“I have to give a lot of credit to Patty and Gal because the interest in my show had peaked when they came on the scene. [Their vision] was intentional — and how I played the character was intentional. To be good, kind, strong and do everything for the right reasons. Even when she was angry, she was angry at the right people.”

We’re big fans of Carter and Gadot (not to mention Patty Jenkins), and even bigger fans of supposed “Lost Causes,” so hey, you never know, this could actually happen if enough fans raise a big enough stink over it; Hope springs eternal Dear and Constant Reader!

We’ll keep everyone posted on any and all developments on a potential third chapter in the Gal Gadot version of Wonder Woman!
