Rising Indie Rock Artist Gavin McLeod Drops Anthemic New Single “Things We Used To Do”

Rising young Indie Rock musician Gavin McLeod releases a brand-new single today called “Things We Used To Do.”

With vibrant lyrics and set to a loud, anthemic chorus, the track is a welcome breath of fresh air to Canada’s music scene. Gavin’s hope is that the song resides in a world between the reflective essence of Neil Young’s Harvest era in its verses with The Killer’s style stadium-filling choruses:

“Things We Used To Do” was one of the first songs that we wrote for the new album. It was a song that had existed for a long time in many different forms, but never really worked until we tried it in the studio.

When my guitar player Patrick suggested a chord change, we all immediately felt like the code had been cracked, and we tracked the final version within a few takes. It was a real team effort getting this one across the finish line. Through all the many changes, the main riff that opens the song always remained from the conception of the song up until the final master.”

Chiming guitar sounds and Gavin’s soulful voice in each verse accompany introspective lyrics, while the choruses explode with electric guitars and driving drums.

The song navigates the idea of longing, nostalgia, and moving on from a past love, capturing the temptation to hold on to a relationship that has run its course.

Reminiscent of many iconic Brit rock anthems, this makes it the perfect opening track for Gavin’s upcoming debut album “The Constant Astonishment.”

Produced by two-time Juno Award-nominated and Emmy Award-winning producer, mixer, and engineer Ross Hayes Citrullo, “Things We Used To Do”, and the upcoming 9 song album, showcase Gavin and his band’s tight chemistry:

“I had the romantic idea of recording the album old school style – live off the floor – just like a show. It was a dream come true,”Gavin says.

A vibrant 24 year old musician from Milton, Ontario, Canada, Gavin has been creating his own path in the music world from a young age.

Beginning with his captivating YouTube content, Gavin quickly amassed a dedicated following of over 100K subscribers, with his music and skateboarding adventures amassing an impressive 18 million views.

With over a decade of musical exploration under his belt, Gavin, alongside his talented bandmates, has dedicated himself to crafting a distinct soulful indie-rock sound. In 2019, Gavin marked a significant milestone with the release of his debut project “The Hollow EP”, earning acclaim as a “blues phenom” from the Toronto Blues Society.

In recent years, Gavin’s electrifying performance at the Toronto Blues Summit 9 catapulted him into a summer filled with prestigious festival appearances. From the Ottawa Bluesfest to the Orangeville Blues and Jazz Festival, Tremblant International Blues Festival, Burlington Sound of Music Festival, and gracing the main stage at the Kitchener Blues Festival, Gavin’s star has continued to rise.

And the production of the upcoming album “The Constant Astonishment” has Gavin and the band utilizing this deep-rooted blues expertise to fuel a transition to a melodic, roots-influenced indie rock sound akin to the style embraced by Inhaler and Sam Fender.

The result is a promising track that is sure to delight new and existing fans.

“Things We Used To Do” is produced by Ross Hayes Citrullo and was recorded at RHC Music in Toronto. On Lead Vocals are Gavin McLeod, McLeod and Patrick Mills on electric guitar, Gavin McLeod on percussion, Tyler Dewar on drums, and Joey DePaivaon bass guitar.
