Lucky Charms is not magically delicious, as they claim. What it is, though, is the cereal with the most-successful iconography of any offering. I’m not speaking of the leprechaun, but the cereal itself. The marshmallows may be lacking in taste and texture, but they are distinct, part of the cultural lexicon. They aren’t all equal, though. Here is a ranking of the marshmallow pieces of Lucky Charms.
8. Unicorn
7. Clover
6. Balloon
5. Heart
4. Blue Moon
3. Rainbow
2. Horseshoe
1. Shooting Star
The unicorn was added after my time eating Lucky Charms, but this isn’t nostalgia. The unicorn is the less-effective piece aesthetically. The clover is on a hat maybe? Or just in a box? The balloon and the heart aren’t all that “lucky charm” in concept. The top four, though, are. They manage to make the rainbow work, even with multiple colors. The star looks the best of the bunch. They all taste the same, of course, and are worse than the non-marshmallow pieces.
