We’re super-excited to be speaking today with acclaimed Brit electronic alt rockers DEADAUDIOSAINTS; greetings and salutations, gang! Before we dive into the Q&A mosh-pit, could you all say ‘hi’ and introduce yourselves to our ever-inquisitive readers?
Hi, we are Deadaudiosaints
Danny – Vocals
Corey – Guitar/ Bass
Damon – Drums
Major kudos and accolades on your roaring new single Anymore and its equally rockin’ music video companion of the same name, both of which drop this March 1! Danny, can you talk a little about what inspired the new single?
Anymore leans on trying to state that ‘I’m over it’ phase, be it in a toxic relationship, job or situation that you have put your everything into to make work but ultimately; you’ve not received the same level of investment in or enough return from that situation.
Corey, who was the producer on Anymore and what did the collaboration between band and producer look like in the studio while working on the new tune?
This whole EP has been entirely self produced, we’ve all had a hand in every aspect of the creative process from writing the music, to recording and mixing the tracks, the artwork and videos. Between all of us, including Luke Johnston, our silent member who prefers a more behind the scenes role, we’ve been able to oversee everything which has been great for us to remain in control of where this EP is going. We’re definitely open to collaborating in the future but I think this EP needed to be just us for it to turn out the way we wanted it and us all to be 100% happy with it.
Damon, in your humble opinion what differentiates the musical stylings of Anymore from the Distinguished Competition on the 2024 music scene?
I think if you were to sit there and study ‘Anymore’ long enough you could probably pick out our influences in certain elements of the track, we’ve not reinvented the wheel, but I think because we’re not massively influenced by the current ‘top’ artists it stands on its own. I think a lot of the rock and metal ‘scene’ is either trend setting or trend chasing, we just do our own thing and we write what we want to play, I think that’s what makes ‘Anymore’ stand out, it doesn’t really fit into any one category or scene… which maybe is as much a curse as it is a blessing
Danny, on the same March 1st date that the new DEADAUDIOSAINTS single Anymore drops, the companion music video for this gem of a ditty also makes its premiere – Congrats! How involved were you and the rest of the band in shaping and structuring the music video behind the scenes? Did you all have a lot of input on the final product?
We truly are a ‘DIY’ band we all input into the process of whatever product we produce. The main idea behind concept of the video was lead by Damon after he was inspired by the show ‘maniac’. We enlisted Fly Girl Films to record the video but the overall concept and direction was from the band.
Corey, word ‘round industry campfire has it that an immersive new EP from DEADAUDIOSAINTS entitled To Whom It May Concern is set to debut this coming May 3; major congratulations! Can you give fans and readers a hint or three as to what they can look forward to with this upcoming EP release?
No hints! Give it a listen and you might just discover your new favourite song or band. I think ‘To Whom It May Concern…’ has something for everyone to connect with.
A question for all of you: Who inspires you musically?
Danny – Placebo, Marilyn Manson, Crosses, Nine Inch Nails
Corey – James Hetfield, Duff Mckagan, Nicolaus Arson, Tom Delonge
Damon – Korn, Deftones, Limp Bizkit, Killing Joke
Damon, what does the touring/performing dance card look like in the coming weeks and months for DEADAUDIOSAINTS?
We’re currently working on getting as many shows booked as we can so we can go out and play these new songs live. Make sure you visit deadaudiosaints.com so you can keep up to date when we’re playing near you. If we’re not playing near you, drop us a message on the website and we’ll work on rectifying that!
Danny, DEADAUDIOSAINTS is based out of Yorkshire. How do those particular stomping grounds inform the sound and energy of the music which you all create?
I think the beauty with Deadaudiosaints is that the ‘sound’ that we make can’t be pigeonholed to any particular part of the county or country. Apart from the obvious accents I think the music has broad commercial appeal internationally as well as nationally.
Corey, what does the creative process generally look like when the band comes together to create new music? Is there method to the creative madness, or is it a bit more freeform than all of that?
It depends on how we all feel or our headspace at the time. It can be one of us brings a near enough complete song to the table and we all add a bit of ‘spice’ to it to give it the saints feel. Or there will be a basic idea such as a riff, synth line or melody that we all build from the ground up.
Damon, any final thoughts you might like to share with fans about the upcoming March 1 release of the new DEADAUDIOSAINTS single Anymore and its companion music video, as well as the forthcoming May 3 EP To Whom It May Concern?
We’re all really proud of this EP, it’s been a little while since we released new music so we hope it’s been worth the wait. In my opinion it’s arguably our best material. Make sure you stream and share it… everywhere! And if you’re new to Deadaudiosaints then I’m sure that there’s something for you in these 6 songs!
Keep up to date with everything at deadaudiosaints.com and hopefully, we’ll see you at a show really soon!
