Led by Christian Imes, Animals in Denial is a musical project shaped by profound personal experiences and a relentless passion for creativity.
“No Enemy” is a song initially inspired by Imes’ experience with the negativity in both the industrial community he was a part of, as well as the Internet culture at large:
“I was in the process of separating myself from but morphed into a rejection of the negativity of internet culture. Everywhere I looked, someone was arguing about something, but the intergenerational stuff really got on my nerves. At first, like any self-respecting Millenial, I got defensive, but I started listening to think about the fact that all my heroes are mostly Gen X’ers and some are Boomers. This brought me to the realization that we just don’t understand each other because we aren’t listening, and that critique went all directions.”
Known for channelling his music as a powerful form of self-expression, Imes is highly innovative and forward thinking.

In this new track, he uses his Billy Corgan Signature Strat and an Ibanez AX120 guitar(s) along with an RP50 for effects, as well as his wife Jeanine’s bass and an Abelton for triggering solid beats. The entire song came together very quickly, with each instrument being a first take in the recording process, and was completely finished in only 3 hours including the lyrics!
Tackling the topic of cyber bullying is ever relevant, with more and more people falling victim to online scams and bullying. Christian says:
“I started to ask myself “Who are my enemies?”, and I realised I don’t have any hate in my heart for anyone. I have no enemies. This doesn’t mean I’ve lived a happy life, in fact far from it. I came from the projects and into a small town where I was literally running for my life from an attempt lynching because I had the audacity to date a girl I liked, who just happened to be white. Now, if that didn’t turn me into a bitter person, I certainly wasn’t going to allow Internet culture at large to allow me to be miserable. PTSD did enough damage and took enough time and therapy to fix, and I believe in moving forward always.”
Imes, who is on the autistic spectrum, discovered his love for music at a young age, and is inspired by artists like Nine Inch Nails and Depeche Mode to name only a few. A versatile punk rock songwriter, musician and performer, Christian represents everything about self-discovery through music and exploring new avenues of expression.
Not only is he a master at the guitar, but he is also self-taught in the realm of synthesizer programming, drumming as well as bass guitar playing. And it is in his private studio sanctuary where he creates much of this musical dynamism. Occasionally receiving support from his wife Jeanine, Imesbrings together a vibrant fusion of talent and innovation as both composer, producer, and performer, as well as pushing boundaries with the use of AI.
The new single further highlights this passion for musical exploration in a current theme relevant to so many people.
