1.) We’re very excited to be speaking today with acclaimed dance-pop artist extraordinaire, STFU It’s Brenda; greetings and salutations, Brenda! Before we dance down the proverbial Q&A musical pathway, how is the freshly-minted New Year treating you and yours?
I’m doing very well! 2024 has been really exciting so far.
2.) Major congratulations on one of the very best new singles of 2024, your infectious new tune Pegging Stationwhich dropped on January 27! Starting at the tip-top, what inspired this upbeat ditty?
So the song came about after having a discussion about BDSM with some friends in a Snapchat group, they were asking me about guys liking to get pegged, and I replied “yeah they love it and pay a lot for it”. I know ‘cause I used to be a dominatrix and they love their pegging station honey lol. That’s how I came up with the song right after I made a voice note of it so I would remember.
What inspired me was that I told myself all last year, that this year 2024, I would record my first record. I had been saying all last year in 2023 I was gonna do it, but kept putting it on the back burner. Not anymore, in 2024 I’m just going for it.
3.)
Who was your producer on Pegging Station and what did the collaboration between producer and artist look like while working on the track?
So the producer is Fotis @foxmedialab.
He’s a producer from Greece that I found on the website Fiverr. I had a good hunch about him and I was right, working with him was great and easy. I just recorded my vocals on Garage band in my kitchen and sent it to him and he did the rest including mixing and mastering.
4.) In your ever-humble opinion, what sets Pegging Station apart from the Distinguished Competition on the 2024 music landscape?
‘Pegging station’ doesn’t sound like any other record out, it has a retro vibe but also sounds new at the same time – also it’s my unique voice that sets me apart from the rest. Fun fact: it was recorded in my kitchen which you would never be able to tell because it sounds like I went to a professional studio to record it.
5.) In the wake of the January 27 release of Pegging Station, can fans look forward to catching you on the touring/performing circuit in the coming weeks and months?
I would love to eventually perform and tour worldwide for the fans, but I’m still new at this and still don’t have a manager. I haven’t been asked to perform anywhere yet, but I so wanna perform at pride though lol.
My plan was to make more music first so I can actually entertain my fans and have more material to work with and give them, but it’s coming eventually.
6.) Who inspires you musically?
I have so many artists I love and inspire me, but here are a few mentions: Michael Jackson, Madonna, Five Star, Doja Cat, Grace Jones, Prince, Lady Gaga, The Pointer Sisters, Britney Spears, Beyoncé, Kelis, Mya, Pat Benatar, Cyndi Lauper, Heart, Vanity, Kim Petra, Boy George, and Rupaul.
7.) You hail from Los Angeles, California and now hang your fedora in New York City. How do those roots inform you as an artist and as a person?
I’m still a Cali girl at heart but now I have some New York sauce on top lol. It’s a great combo, I’m very well balanced because of it, and it’s definitely shaped me into being more creative and open minded.
8.) You have one of the very best pop music monikers we’ve stumbled across in forever! What’s the VH1-Behind the Music origin story on how you landed on the awesome stage name of STFU It’s Brenda?
So there used to be this app called ‘House Party’, it’s not longer available but I was very popular on it some years ago and this was the name I used on the app, and I use it on Tiktok too, so I thought it would be cool to keep it since I had a huge fanbase already with the name. Anytime someone would see my name in the chat, people would be like, “Who is that? Add her to the live”. It attracts a lot of attention online lol and it’s so my personality.
9.) With the brand-spankin’ new release of your new single, can fans look forward to an EP or LP release from you in 2024?
Well my plan is to release 4 songs this year. ‘Pegging station’ is the very first song I ever recorded and I just got done making my 2nd song. It should be out by the summer but more is definitely coming, I’m working on it.
10.) What does your creative process normally look like when working on new material? Is there method to the creative madness, or is it a bit more free-form than all of that?
I always write the chorus/hook first then write my story/verses around whatever the chorus is about. I also take voice notes of me singing on the phone to keep the vibe and tone of the song of whatever I’m writing.
11.) At the end of the day, what do you hope listeners walk away with after giving many-a-spin to your new single Pegging Station?
I just hope it makes them feel good and makes them want to dance, and puts them in a good mood. I hope it empowers women and make them feel like a boss.
