“Outlander: Blood of My Blood” Starz Prequel Series Sets Official Cast, Begins Filming

This isn’t our first rodeo in reporting on the phenomenon which is Outlander. For going on a full decade, author Diana Gabaldon’s time travel drama mixed with a fair dose of Harlequin Romance has thrilled audiences. And why wouldn’t it? Following the time-tossed misadventures of World War II-era Scotch nurse Claire Randall and her hunky and altogether dreamy Highland warrior Jamie Fraser, this story has unfolded slowly and beautifully, adapting Gabaldon’s book series and adding its own indelible plot points as it goes along. But what of the mysterious backstory of Jamie? Where did he come from and has he always had that enviable mane of hair? Fortunately the fan love for this series has been strong enough to get us all to the point where we can finally begin filling in some blanks on the Secret Origins of our cast of characters. Case in point? This major update on the new prequel series from Starz entitled Outlander: Blood of My Blood which is winging its way to us courtesy of our pals over at The Hollywood Reporter.

Fresh off of the first-half of the seventh season of Outlander which made its premiere back in June of 2023, is the welcome news today that a prequel series entitled Outlander: Blood of My Blood has officially found its cast and begun shooting what looks to be a very revealing look back on some of the characters and places which have endeared themselves to audiences over the last ten years.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood as we noted above will act as a prequel series to everything which has gone before and will take a close look at Jamie Fraser’s parents. Parallel to that storyline will be one which will look at the World War I origins of Claire’s parents and their love story. This bit of good news comes hot on the heels of the news of the regular Outlander series receiving the green light for an eighth and final season. Both the regular series and its prequel will consist of ten episodes apiece.

Officially cast in Outlander: Blood of My Blood are master thespians Harriet Slater (of Pennyworth fame) and Jamie Roy (from Lifetime’s cheese-fest Your Boyfriend Is Mine), Hermione Corfield and Jeremy Irvine. Filming has already begun in Scotland, according to sources.

In a press release announcing the casting and the start of production, showrunner Matthew B. Roberts said that “We’re thrilled to be telling the stories of these two couples. The origins of their relationships explore universal themes that transcend time periods, and we’re so excited for fans to discover and fall in love with these characters and their love stories the way they have with Claire and Jamie.”

Exciting news for all of us Outlander fans! Until we have an official release date for Outlander: Blood of My Blood, you can whet your appetites for all things chivalrous and romantic with the upcoming second-half of season seven of the regular series which will drop sometime in 2024 (our bet is in the summer)!
