INTERVIEW | Secret Wish opens up about their brand new music video “Voodoo Nights”

Secret Wish recently sat down to talk about all things “Voodoo Nights”. The interview can be found down below!

How has your sound evolved over the years, and what defines the distinct Secret Wish style?

Secret Wish is an electronic duo who team up to put together some high energy music that would fill the dance floor on any continent. We jam Pop and Dance together in order to get you up and dancing.

After a slew of international chart-topping hits on the DDK Charts, Cool Cuts Chart and Asian, Polish, German Dance charts, it has proven time and time again that our music is a dish best served to those who are down to party. It captivates audiences of club-goers with pulsating beats and compelling rhythms.

How does the collaborative songwriting process work, and what unique contributions do each collaborator bring to the table?

Kurt has a musical taste that stems from his background as a DJ in his younger years. From that point of view, he works these days together with fellow musicians and he is also the driving force behind the band. Heidi joined him in this adventure to bring his songs to life.

Heidi, your vocals are described as hypnotic in “Voodoo Nights.” How do you approach delivering the atmospheric quality of the song through your vocal style?

It pleases me a lot to hear that my voice is described as hypnotic. I played in several cover bands before joining Secret Wish and started at a young age with singing, so I had the chance to train my voice and give my touch to it.

How does your success and award nominations impact your approach to creating new music?

The same way as we did before.

Ideas can come alive everywhere. Often, lyrics find their shape on the road. Simple things you see when you’re driving somewhere can be a source of inspiration. The musical part requires more structure in a settled environment.

“Voodoo Nights” has been remixed by several DJs. How does collaborating with different DJs enhance the song’s impact?

Every radio station has its style or format. By delivering a pocketful of remixes, they all have the chance to choose the right one that fits best. The strongest remixes also lift up the radio edit of the song.

How does your music translate into live performances, and what energy do you aim to convey during energetic tracks like “Voodoo Nights”?

During our live performances, we aim to convey a positive energetic happy feeling with our audience that puts a smile on their face and gets them up and dancing.

How has the local Belgian music scene influenced your music?

Since the 90s, the Belgian dance scene has inspired us with acts such as Milk Inc, Absolom, Fiocco, Lasgo, 2Fabiola among others. With that in mind, Kurt had chosen to attend a music school as a young boy. At the age of 17 he found his place in the nightlife by becoming a DJ. Heidi, a fellow musician and vocalist, joined Secret Wish to give it that extra power.

What can fans anticipate from you regarding future projects and musical exploration?

Secret Wish has always aimed to expand its audience across borders and express its music to an international audience. Our songs have earned airtime in several countries across Europe and Asia, landing on charts such as DDK and Cool Cuts, and have been nominated for MMA and HDT awards in the genres of house, dance, and trance.

We have found out that’s the direction to continue. And we will of course go for the extra mile. For example, we are currently working with a videographer who has worked on blockbusters such as The World Is Not Enough & The Huntsman. Hopefully, fans will get a visual satisfaction from the end result of this music video that will support the summer release.
