Breezers Release New Music Video For ‘Cemetery’

Today we are pleased to join forces with Breezers for the premiere of the video for their latest single “Cemetery,” the second single off the upcoming Breezers album Hideaway coming out March 8th via the Blackbird Record Label / Indie AM Gold. Jangly acoustic guitars and lap-steel licks kick off this classic-sounding folk rock jammer as piano and electric guitar parts start trickling in while the bass and drums complete the vibe with an instantly familiar and easy country rock groove reminiscent of late 60s and early 70s Americana groups like CCR, Cowboy and New Riders of the Purple Sage.

The lyrics to “Cemetery” are drawn from a freight train-hopping trip Breezers songwriter Evan apRoberts once undertook “years ago” as he reminds us in the song. On the spur of the moment one mid December night, he and a fellow artist hopped a northbound freight leaving San Luis Obispo, eventually jumping off somewhere outside of Salinas and sleeping for a few hours in a field next to a cemetery. The car they chose to hide/ride in was an open top grain car, perfect for stargazing as the train slowly chugged its way northward through the rich and rugged agricultural lands of California’s Central Coast. The song’s lyrics focus on the inherent beauty and grittiness of the situation and highlight apRoberts love of the experiential “I woke up in the cold night air, sensations passing through my body, my body lying in the dirt and the filth of industry. It feels good tonight.” The videos the themes, plot and vibe of the song as we follow Evan and his pal throughout on a bit of a road trip as they laidback vibe of the song.

Evan apRoberts comments, “The song is written about the first time I ever hopped a freight train with my friend and fellow artist, Evan Chambers. Doug and I thought it would be cool to loosely allude to that first trip and how my time I’ve spent rambling around on trips like that informs my visual art practice and the songs I write.”
