Kieran Culkin and Jesse Eisenberg Film “A Real Pain” Finds a Home With Searchlight Pictures

If you’re freshly-minted Emmy Award Winner Kieran Culkin, how do you follow-up critically beloved and now sadly departed series Succession? After all, once you’ve ridden the extreme highs of that HBO phenomenon, what lands are left to conquer? Before we all begin worrying too much about the former Igby Goes Down thespian, two words to soothe and calm any post-hit worries: Standing. Ovation. After Culkin was touted by such outlets as The Daily Beast for delivering the best performance of his career in the new Jesse Eisenberg-directed film A Real Pain, the actor as wella s everyone associated with this much-buzzed about motion picture received a standing ovation from the crowds at the Sundance Film Festival last Saturday night. If that’s not proof in the pudding that there will be no post-Succession slump for the NYC native, then check out this bit of good news for everyone associated with one of the breakthrough hits of Sundance – A Real Pain officially has been acquired by a major studio and is now set for a wide release later in 2024…

According to our Art of the Deal muchachos over at The Hollywood Reporter, Searchlight Pictures has added to their roster the Sundance darling A Real Pain for a cool and reported $10 million price tag; hope Eisenberg springs for a good and proper wrap party for the production after that jaw-dropping number!

For anyone not in the know, A Real Pain follows two cousins – Culkin and Eisenberg – who embark upon a tour of Holocaust-related sites in their grandmother’s native country of Poland. The film also features the acting services of the ever-lovely Jennifer Grey and stalwart journeyman actor Will Sharpe. The film marks actor Jesse Eisenberg’s sophomore outing behind the film camera.

Trio extraordinaire Dave McCary, Emma Stone and Ali Herting of production house Fruit Tree did the producing honors on the film. In a press release touting the film and its deal with Searchlight, the producers said that “We are the utmost believers in Jesse as a creative voice and were thrilled to collaborate again on his second film with such ambitious scope and themes. To have another friend and beloved collaborator on board in the singular Kieran Culkin was more than we can ask for, as well as working with the amazing team at Searchlight.”

No official release date for A Real Pain, but look for it some time this year!
