A Winning Bet: “Bookie” Wins Second Season Renewal from Max

Chuck Lorre has long been a  staple on the Hollywood television scene, having hit the ground running creatively with the hit comedy Two and a Half Men. Moving on from there, the Bethpage, New York native went on to entrance viewers everywhere with his worthy and wholly different followup The Kominsky Method. Of course, everyone has a favorite Chuck Lorre series, even if they might not realize that Lorre is the mastermind behind countless hours of sitcom fun: Grace Under Fire, Dharma and Greg, The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon all bear the unmistakable fingerprints of the 71 year old guru. His latest outing, Max’s The Bookie has also garnered its fair share of fans in its relatively short life. And, according to our Disjointed admirers over at The Hollywood Reporter, that fanbase for the one season series is about to expand even more with the news of a renewal!

Streaming service Max has officially renewed the Chuck Lorre/Nick Bakay comedy series Bookie for a sophomore season. For anyone not hep to this clever and witty series, the story proper follows a seasoned bookie struggling to live through the legalization of sports gambling, which, as a bookie, is anathema to his business.

Sebastian Maniscalco leads a cast which includes the likes of Vanessa Ferlito, Charlie Sheen (who has buried the hatchet with Lorre, we’re glad to see), Andrea Anders, Omar J. Dorsey and Jorge Garcia. Bookie itself is based off of leading man Maniscalco’s own comedy.

The news of the season two renewal for Bookie comes on the heels of the show’s December 21 season finale.

“The collaboration between Chuck and Sebastian has proven to be a winning hand and we’re looking forward to continuing the story with this incredibly talented cast and crew,” enthused Amy Gravitt, Big Wheel at HBO and Max.

Seconded longtime Lorre champion and partner Warner Bros. Television Channing Dungey, “There’s no doubt that Chuck and Nick’s Bookie won big this season as they took us on a hilarious ride into the underbelly of illegal sports gambling, featuring a cast led by another dynamic duo: Sebastian Maniscalco and Omar J. Dorsey. I’m looking forward to watching more of their antics in season two.  Congratulations to the entire cast and crew, and thanks to our partners at Max.”

We’ll keep everyone up-to-date on a release date for season two of Bookie!
