“Curb Your Enthusiasm” to End After 12 Subversive and Hilarious Seasons

When the classic sitcom Seinfeld reached the end of its run back in 1998, it felt like there could be no real replacement for the Jerry Seinfeld-Larry David-created “show about nothing.” But, lo and behold, a mere two years later came along what felt like a surrogate of that evergreen series in the form of an uproarious and beautifully subversive series called Curb Your Enthusiasm. Created by the aforementioned Larry David (therein playing an exaggerated version of himself), this HBO show served as a palette cleanser from all of the soulless and shallow offerings that are always knocking around on the television landscape; it was grand.

Alas, all good things must come to an end, at least according to our Gloom and Doom muchachos over at The Hollywood Reporter who broke the news this week that our de facto Seinfeld surrogate Curb Your Enthusiasm is set to sign off the air after 12 glorious seasons.

In a press release announcing the ending of his storied series, Larry David, in typical tongue-in-cheek manner, said that “As Curb comes to an end, I will now have the opportunity to finally shed this ‘Larry David’ persona and become the person God intended me to be — the thoughtful, kind, caring, considerate human being I was until I got derailed by portraying this malignant character. And so ‘Larry David,’ I bid you farewell. Your misanthropy will not be missed. And for those of you who would like to get in touch with me, you can reach me at Doctors Without Borders.”

That poignant and no doubt irreverent final season of Curb Your Enthusiasm will be sashaying onto television screens worldwide beginning February 4, 2024. Consisting of ten episodes in total (there’s gotta be a Larry David monologue somewhere about the trend in recent years to abbreviate an artform which, in the past, would typically consist of between 20-36 episodes for one season; end of mini-rant).

In his own statement about the concluding chapter of Curb Your Enthusiasm, HBO Big Wheel Casey Bloys said that “It’s hard to say farewell to such a ground-breaking, brilliantly funny and iconic series like Curb Your Enthusiasm, which has left its mark across television and the comedy genre. Working alongside Larry David and [executive producer] Jeff Schaffer as well as all of the comedic masterminds that comprise our producers, cast and crew has been a joy that I will always treasure.”

We have a hunch that there are still many hilarious things coming down the pike for Larry David, but we’re sure gonna miss his sly and witty efforts on Curb Your Enthusiasm; thanks for twelve amazing seasons, Larry!
