INTERVIEW: The Flying Hasslehoffs

1.)    We’re very excited to welcome you  to our humble pages the high-flying – and nothing short of spectacular – indie-rock singer-songwriter duo known far-and-wide as The Flying Hasslehoffs; greetings and salutations, gang! Before we dive into the Q&A mosh-pit, could you both say ‘hi’ and introduce yourselves to our ever-inquisitive readers?

Timmy: Hey, thanks for having us, I’m Timmy Johnston.  Johnny: First of all, thank you, it’s a pleasure to be here.  We are grateful you took the time to interview us.

2.)    Major congratulations on the freshly-minted release of your self-titled EP, The Flying Hasslehoffs! Timmy, what inspired this hard-drivin’ yet slightly more mellow new classic of an EP?

When we started writing, there was a natural flow, and kind of easy decision making process that allowed us to move forward quickly, arranging and recording and developing our sound almost instantaneously.

3.)    Johnny, we’re big admirers of the haunting tune Life is Beautiful off of The Flying Hasslehoffs EP! What’s the VH1-Behind the Music origin story on this gem of a ditty?

Timmy and I were residents at the Plaza Casino at the time it was written, and during our downtime, our shared suite allowed us to write about how much we were missing our families and loved ones.

4.)    Timmy, in your humble opinion what differentiates the new EP from the Distinguished Competition on the 2023 music scene?

There are countless talented artists all over the planet now.  There is no way to actually compete with everyone, so we only worry about improving our writing.

5.)    Johnny, in the wake of the release of The Flying Hasslehoffs EP, can fans look forward to catching you and Timmy on the touring/performing circuit in the coming weeks and months?

We are certainly open to the idea.  Please stay tuned to www.theflyinghasslehoffs.com for any touring announcements.

6.)    A question for the both of you: Who inspires you musically?

Timmy:  Artists and music that hit a nerve, something that is instant, and undeniable, so much so that my body reacts to it.

Johnny:  Ditto!

7.)    Timmy, who was the producer on the new EP and what did the collaboration between band and producer look like in the studio?

We wrote and recorded and produced everything on these songs.  We both played all the instruments, and Johnny did the heavy lifting when it came to getting these songs in the can and ready for our buddy, Jerome Lee from the world famous Curtis Knight Band, for mastering.

8.)    Johnny, will 2024 bring forth an LP from The Flying Hasslehoffs? Is an album something which is already in the planning stages?

We are currently in the studio recording our next single, “Hold Me”, and it should be ready soon.

9.)    Timmy, what does the creative process generally look like when you and Johnny come together to write new material? Is there method to the madness, or is it a bit more free-form and loose than all of that?

There are so many different ways to complete a song, so we don’t rule out any creative madnesses.

10.)   Johnny, both you and Timmy hang your respective fedoras in Fort Myers, Florida. How do those roots inform the sound and energy of The Flying Hasslehoffs?

Our roots are from family first and foremost, so that is what you’ll hear mostly in our music.

11.)  Timmy, at the end of the day what do you and Johnny hope listeners walk away with after giving many-a-spin to one of the best EP’s of 2023, The Flying Hasslehoffs

Thank you for that compliment.  We hope whoever listens to our music enjoys it, buys it, shares it, and comes back for the next release.  I really love to write music, and I know Johnny can’t live without it, so it’s a huge part of our life to put music on the planet.
