Hailing from Bedford, Junior has grown up making music in a summer cabin-turned-studio, developing his unique musical direction during his formative years.
The artist now returns after his 6th EP ‘The Secret Ingredient’ to showcase the nu-disco-inspired ‘Tonight (I Like It)’. Showing off a new side to his production, we open to Roberta Flack’s ‘Killing Me Softly With His Song’, the soft vocals dive into a Supershy-esque four-to-the-floor groove. As the funky bassline and nostalgic string hits are brought in, Junior’s vocal performance balances the sung and the spoken with unparalleled good vibes. Danceable and joyous, it seems like a natural progression for Junior’s music to be diving into this groovier sound.
“This song kind of fell from the stars.” Junior shares, “Whenever I go to write my music I never know what’s going to come out, I just follow the wind, I produced + wrote this song in Bedford and then finished it at Dean St Studios in Soho. I really wanted to make a track that made people dance, I guess a Disco vibe was the genre that made perfect sense. I wanted to remain myself in a new genre.”
