INTERVIEW | Austin Martin breaks down his newest single “Country Drunk”

Country artist Austin Martin sat down with VENTS recently for an interview about his brand new music video “Country Drunk”. The interview can be found below.

Who are your biggest country inspirations?

My biggest country inspirations right now are Jon Pardi, Hardy, Luke combs, Jason Aldean, Lainey Wilson, and Luke Bryan. Of course I also am inspired by the greats like George Strait, Dwight Yokum, Meryl Haggard, and Johnny Cash.

Tell us a little about growing up in Ryegate. How does coming from such a small rural town influence your songwriting?

Growing up in Ryegate was amazing! All my brothers and I did was play outside. We would explore caves, float the river, shoot guns, work cattle, ride our horses and try our best to stay out of trouble! I had a great childhood. I think it influenced my songwriting bc it helped me connect into that world of country. I have experienced the things I write about, and that’s something I want to keep. The authenticity.

Could you elaborate more on being “Country Drunk”? How is it different from other kinds of drunk?

When I say “Country Drunk” Im actually referring to the pride that comes with being a small town American. We are drunk on country. The culture is Hard working, honest, down to earth and rowdy. Although we can drink with the best of them, Country Drunk is about the life.

Did you have any difficulties writing “Country Drunk”?

With every song there comes it’s challenges. If I remember correctly I re-wrote the chorus melody a few times. It had to be BIG. Thankfully I have a world class guitarist in “Michael “Fish” Herring” to help me along when I get stuck. All in all this song flowed fairly well. Some songs take weeks to get right, this one took a day.

Are there any aspects of “Country Drunk” that you are proud of how they turned out?

I am really proud of all aspects of this song! I will say I am very excited about how the video turned out for it. I feel like a lot of times people listen with their eyes, and I think the “Country Drunk” video really captured the Herd and I, as far as who we are, and what we are about. I also am proud of the way I wrote this song. May not be the deepest lyrics I have written but I feel like I did a good job adding some comedic parts, and bouncing Melodie’s off that rockin guitar lick. Sometimes simple is better. I think we did this one just write.

Do you have a favorite memory of any parties or going out for drinks with your friends?

There are too many to count, but my favorite parties were the ones outside of bars. Which I wrote a song about, and it will be coming out on my “American Brewed” Album Spring of 2024. Its called “Anywhere But The Bars”. Billings, MT has rims that surround the whole town, basically a huge ridge looking over the city. We would always go up there and get rowdy. From house parties, to the rims, to drinking at Bonfires were some of my favorites. As far as specific memories I don’t want to go into to much detail. We could get wild.

What is your go-to drink? Which drinks do you avoid?

Jack and coke, Coors light, and Pendleton. I learned early to avoid Tequila. I get in trouble on Tequila.

What can we expect next from you?

We have a lot of things in the works right now. I have a new single coming out on November 14th called “Neon Dream”. I have an album coming out in the Spring of 2024 called “American Brewed” which features songs like Country Drunk and Neon Dream. We are also working on a big tour in 2024 so be on the look for that. I have been lucky enough to get some pretty big sponsor such as Coca – Cola, Bank Of America, and Chevy! Also expect to see us working with Make A Wish as we are partnered with them right now. Our goal is to raise 10,000 dollars by Christmas, and next year we want to grant 40 wishes!
