Consisting of former Catfish and the Bottlemen drummer Rob Hall and members from The Bongo Club and Bottlecap, Hearts emerge with their debut EP ‘EP1’ on 20th October. With musical influences from the indie heroes of the noughties brought into 2023, Hearts deliver a modern rock sound ready for the festival stages.
With the band having members from both Sweden and the UK, Hearts combine the Swede’s ear for pop melodies with the raw authenticity of BritPop and the UK Rock scene. Having already had success with debut singles ‘Slide’ , ‘Collide’ and ‘Make Somebody Run’ the EP brings us ‘It’s Over’ – a fan favourite at live shows.
“It’s Over is a song we initially thought would be the one that would appeal more to other musicians as opposed to the fans, but when playing it live it has proven to be a fan favourite. Musically it sticks out from the other songs as there’s more air, especially in the verses. It’s a vibe change, but it’s got all the elements of a proper belter.”
‘EP1’ was recorded and produced by Fredrik Serholt in Audiofabriken in Gothenburg and mixed and mastered by Pieter Rietkerk in Chapel Recording Studios, Lincolnshire, UK.
“The EP features four songs that all found their foundation in a rehearsal room before being live-recorded, making sure it would not go unnoticed that this is a product performed by a real band with real people. Once the songs were captured, we let our wonderful producer push the songs as far as he could with a Moog synth, expanding the sound of the band.”
Sharing an impressive history of extensive touring, playing venues all over the world, the band have thousands of hours of adventures behind them. These experiences, and a shared passion for playing live is the foundation of Hearts. Living and breathing being in bands for the last decade, there’s nothing they know better, and Hearts will keep championing guitar-music moving forward.
“The concept of the music is just being in a band. When we first started writing and playing the songs for this EP the main goal was to have fun and make music with friends, in an unpretentious setting. What was really inspiring is that we had all known each other for quite a while and had been in bands we all respected but had never been in a room together making music. The excitement of this coming together with people still exists and inspires us now. Also, we quickly realised that we loved the songs too much to just keep it to ourselves and almost immediately started to make plans on recording and getting gigs together.”
Following the release of ‘EP1’ on October 20th, Hearts will kick off their tour of the UK and Sweden, starting in Gothenburg (Dates and tickets below)
