INTERVIEW: Classified

1) We’re very excited to have some time today with legendary award-winning Hip-Hop artist Classified; greetings and salutations and thanks for taking time out of a busy schedule to be here with us today! Before we jump right into the Q&A musical rabbit hole, how have the first few days of the autumn of 2023 been treating you?

Appreciate it..its been good..fall / hoodie weather is my favorite time of the year, so i been liking it.

2) Major congratulations on the freshly-minted release of your powerful new single People. What was the inspiration behind this amazing gem of a tune?

I just woke up one day..hopped on social media and was sick of seeing everyone hating on each other..these people hating on these people..cause of religion..race..wealth etc..and i was kind of like, i’m sick of everybody right now..no one wants to listen to anyone else’s opinions or have a grown up conversation anymore, just so much hate.. .i wrote that first line..i don’t really like people and the rest just came out.

3) In your humble opinion, what differentiates People from the distinguished competition on the 2023 music scene?

Just talking about real shit that I think a lot of people are thinking and going through these days So much division in society when we should be trying to bring people together..that was the point of this song. And I also think a lot of artists are kind of scared to get into these topics cause of cancel culture these days.

4) As a respected producer in your own right, did you do the producing honors on People? And what are the pros to serving as your own producer?

Yea. I produced all my stuff. The pros, I get to make my music by myself and exactly how I hear it in my head. I love producing just as much as I do writing. It’s a good balance for me. The cons, I gotta make all those decision by myself and don’t have anyone to bounce ideas off of..plus its a lot more work, lol.

5) People speaks with eloquence on the lack of empathy which feels rampant in our world today. Why was this an important issue for you to tackle?

Because I’m sick of assholes lol and just the way people are treating other people, communication has been lost. I feel like we need to start caring about other people who might have different opinions, then take the time to talk and hear peoples reasoning, instead of being so defensive and having our backs agains the wall.

6) How is People similar to some of your past music? How is it different?

I always like to talk about real topics and things other artists don’t talk about, for example my song “Powerless,” or “Noahs Arc.” Real life shit, but I think this one is different just how its arrange..and starts..with that first line. I don’t like people. I don’t like white people..caught a lot of my long term fans off guard..because it sounds like a very negative/ hating song..but once you take the time to listen through you realize its actually a song about bringing people together.

7) How were you involved in the behind the scenes production of the music video for People?

My brother and I shoot all my videos, so we plan out everything together. He shoots and edits it and I just help direct and put everything together with him..very involved..I love putting visuals to my music.

8) On the heels of the release of the new single, can fans look forward to catching you on the touring/performing circuit in the coming weeks and months?

For sure. I just did a bunch of festival dates all summer…got a few shows left this year..but there will be more touring in 2024.

9) What’s up for you after People? Will you be focusing on an EP or LP release for late 2023 or early 2024?

Dropping a 10 song project in April. But going to drop a new song and video every 6 or 7 weeks until that comes out.

10) People is released via HalfLife Records / Big Story Entertainment. What makes HalfLife/Big Story the perfect home for you and your music?

Just seeing their excitement for my first single people, I felt like they had the same vision I did with that song, and it makes a world of a difference to have a team that believes in what you’re putting out, so just made sense.

11) At the end of the day, what do you hope listeners walk away with after giving many-a-spin on their hi-fi systems to People?

I hope people step back and realize we are focusing on so many small insignificant differences between us individuals in this world. When I feel like we should be coming together to focus on fixing the bigger issues that we have as a whole.
