Only Murders in the Building – Hulu’s sly true crime riff on everyday ordinary people obsessed with true crime – has been a boon to a whole lot of folks: First and foremost, this Steve Martin/Martin Short/Selena Gomez confab has been nothing but a win for TV watchers who long for intelligent and fun content to counter about 99% of the dreck that’s to be found on streaming or cable services. Naturally, this acceptance by large audiences with discerning tastes has turned a shiny penny for the benevolent overseers at Hulu and 20th Television. Lastly, this out-of-left-field hit has marked a career resurgence for comic legends Martin and Short and finally offered an olive branch to the talented Selena Gomez out of the nebulous land of tween stardom which she’s previously occupied. Everyone’s a winner!
And speaking of ‘winning’, that’s precisely what Only Murders in the Building has done with the news today from our The Three Amigos pals over at The Hollywood Reporter that this seminal series has won a fourth season from streaming service Hulu. So even though Tuesday’s season 3 season finale for the show may have ended in a proverbial cliffhanger, at least loyal viewers need not fret the ultimate fate of their favorite show.
For anyone that thrilled to the Broadway-bound misadventures of the third season of Only Murders in the Building, a real highlight was the guest star-turns of such acting luminaries as Meryl Streep, Jesse Williams and Paul Rudd. Can dedicated aficionados of the series expect to see at least Streep and Williams return to reprise their parts in the just-announced season 4? Absolutely, if the showrunner and co-creator for the series John Hoffman has anything to say about it.
“There is no greater hope for me. I love them both, Jesse and Meryl, everyone,” Hoffman explained to The Hollywood Reporter. “I mean, for God’s sakes, I would bring Paul back if we can. Listen, I would bring everyone back, and that might happen. Victims, killers, they’re all able to play in the landscape within this sort of certain narrative ways we can tell our stories.”
Hey, we’re just happy to have one of the best ongoing shows continue to be ongoing! If you haven’t yet, stop over at Hulu and check out Only Murders in the Building and tell ‘em Vents sent you!
