Daniel Astles writes music that is honest and warming, heartbreaking and grandiose. Live, he appears with the Balloon Moon Orchestra, a collective of 10 musicians, that allow him to bring the sounds of the harp and string section to his tender lyricism. The artist was recently awarded PRS Momentum Funding and signed a publishing deal with Starwood Management and Sentric. These endorsements, alongside his meaningful relationship with community, have lit a fire of confidence in the artists, bringing effortless creativity to the recording of a debut album.
Astles has recently released a new single entitled ‘This One’s For You’, a track that captures your heart with warm instrumentation and emotionally connected lyricism. Sprinkling shimmering piano melodies atop a gentle vocal performance, Astles contrasts the constant drive of the drums, which are strictly on beat and do not falter throughout the single. As is key of his signature sound, we are also blessed with gorgeously flowing string arrangements, accenting the themes of bittersweet love that are showcased to the listener. Sombre, laid-back and rich, the dichotomy of anticipation and wistfulness are played to perfection.
Astles explains, “‘This One’s For You’ is a song about realising how lucky I am to have wonderful people in my life. It’s quite easy sometimes to sit and be unhappy with how things play out, how life doesn’t quite go the way you would like at points. But I have beautiful inspiring people around me everyday who chose to spend their time, efforts and life with me. So maybe I’m doing better than I’d like to think sometimes.’
‘This One’s For You’ is a love song, an unwanted gift almost! I have written 100’s of songs for and about the people I love and I’m sure they’re fed up with it by now. But then moments when I feel truly understood and loved, I always find myself going to write a song. There is no safer and inspiring feeling than being truly yourself. And the ones you love get you to that place time and time again.”
