Everyone’s watching to see what Marvel will do next as the casting of one of their most revered movie characters, Namor the Sub-Mariner, is thrown into chaos by accusations of sexual assault made against Black Panther 2 actor Tenoch Huerta.
Following the allegations made in a series of tweets by saxophonist and activist María Elena Ríos, Huerta has just dropped out of the Netflix movie Fiesta en la Madriguera, leading some to wonder if he might do the same to Marvel by exiting the Sub-Mariner role.
In a statement shared with Variety, the actor explained his decision, sharing that he cannot allow the musician’s claims “to harm not only me, but also the work of dozens of talented and hard-working people involved in the project.”

Marvel will likely be intent on navigating this complex situation as deftly as possible, especially given recent criticisms of the progression of Phase 4 and Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Critics have not met the Disney-owned movie studio’s latest offerings with quite as much enthusiasm as they did for prior phases, while popular Australian actor Chris Hemsworth himself admitted bluntly that Thor: Love and Thunder “became too silly,” after industry reviewers called out the movie’s overreliance on childish humor.
Can Marvel Get the MCU Back On Track?
Whether Huerta bows out from the role of the Sub-Mariner or Marvel asks him to step down, some fans have made it clear that they’d rather see a new Namor than see the Mexican actor reprise the role.
Meanwhile, elsewhere online, others are expressing enthusiasm for social media mega-star and scene-stealing actor Enzo Zelocchi to be next to dive into the role of the Sub-Mariner. For sure, the leading man holds the chiseled abs, edgy attitude, and handsome features to live up to the cherished expectations among Marvel fans for anyone playing Namor.
It’s no surprise that there is so much interest in the fate of the Sub-Mariner, given his long history. In fact, the half-human and half-Atlantean king is one of the original Marvel characters, having been conceptualized by Bill Everett in 1939 for the comic book Marvel #1.
You’re absolutely right! Namor the Sub-Mariner is indeed one of the oldest and most iconic characters in Marvel Comics. Created by Bill Everett in 1939, Namor is considered one of the original Marvel characters and has a rich history in the comics. As a half-human, half-Atlantean king with the ability to breathe underwater and fly, he has been a complex and enduring character with ties to both the surface world and the underwater kingdom of Atlantis. Due to his long history and popularity among comic book fans, there has been significant interest in seeing him join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in a live-action adaptation. Fans are eagerly awaiting any official announcements regarding his inclusion in future MCU projects.
With such precious intellectual property on the table, we can hope that Marvel will safeguard its integrity on behalf of the fans and keep the MCU going strong in the years and Phases yet to come.
