Reality TV personality Blaine Anthony’s most prominent on-screen role came in the 2011 series “The Bear Whisperer,” but his career in outdoor recreation and conservation continues to this day. While you may love or hate his on-air enthusiasm and stuck in the 80’s look, fans call him unique, exciting, fun, and one of the most authentic people in outdoor TV. Today, the ‘Bear Whisperer’ focuses mainly on his efforts in black bear conservation.
Blaine’s Early Years
Born into a military family, Blaine’s younger years were filled with frequent moves and travel with his father, Harvey, and mother, Gilda. He attended four high schools before his graduation in 1985 and visited many locations around the globe. As he entered young adulthood, he chose to put down roots in New Jersey with a job as a warehouse manager. He got many promotions, but ultimately decided this type of ordinary career was not for him.
Discovery of His Passion for the Great Outdoor
A short vacation to visit his retired parents led him to a chance meeting with local hunters over a friendly poker game. If Blaine lost, he would have to go out hunting with the winner. His luck with cards did not hold, but the outdoor adventure proved very lucky as it sparked his first interest in nature. A fortuitous deer kill led to a delicious venison feast. Blaine later stated that eating food he harvested himself was a ‘magical experience,’ and he immediately decided to change the direction of his career and life.
New Pathways Toward Success
A few non-nature-related jobs and businesses funded his plans to focus on the outdoors. He became a guide in Maine before getting the inspiration to launch his own TV program to share his love of nature with others. In 2001, Maine Safari with Blaine Anthony began. The following year, the Sportsman Channel picked it up as a weekly series.
In 2007, he launched the company Nature Productions, which handled various other shows primarily about hunting. The Bear Whisperer is his most popular reality TV series to date. It ran for more than 140 episodes and gave him his well-known nickname today. Blaine finally had a big platform to share his knowledge and interest in black bear life and conservation with the world.
Blaine Anthony continues to be a prominent voice for conservation today. He has spent considerable time and resources learning about black bears, tagging and tracking them for preservation efforts, and educating the public about their activities and importance in the ecosystem. Dramatic Bear Whisperer episodes like ‘Junkyard Bears,’ ‘When Bears Attack,’ and more continue to excite viewers and shed a unique light on these magnificent animals.
He continues to appear on TV and various podcasts, and is an active proponent of second amendment rights, and fights against anti-hunting groups from around the world. His media company Nature Productions continues to put out shows and win awards.
