INTERVIEW: SONÉT

1.)         We’re super-excited to be speaking today with acclaimed singer and songwriter SONÉT; greetings and salutations, SONÉT! Before we meander down the musical Q&A pathway, how have the dog days of the summer of ‘23 been treating you?

First of all, thanks for this great opportunity. Overall, Summer 2023 has been amazing. It has been a super exciting period for me with the release of my song ‘Forward’ on all major platforms. The whole experience has inspired me to keep working hard to create quality music for the world to enjoy. Now that Summer is almost at it’s end, I look forward to continued growth in this fantastic journey.

2.)         Major congratulations on your most recent single, Forward! What was the inspiration for this gem of a tune?

Thank you so much. After going through a challenging period of endless disappointments, betrayals and misunderstandings, I took this overwhelming period of negativity and took some time for self-reflection, searching for a resolution. I discovered the answer by focusing on my faith, then putting pen to paper and brought the beautifully motivational track ‘Forward,’ to life. ‘The lyrics encourage us to be positive and continue to move forward by living and loving life. The song has a spiritual connotation that speaks of coming forth from a dark place into the light.’

3.)         Who was your producer on Forward and what did the collaboration between artist and producer look like in the studio?

I embarked on the ‘opportunity of a lifetime’ to record this new single, by working with producer Isosik at his South FL studio & Co-Producer Ace Lombardi. We shared our creativity, which culminated into the final arrangement of ‘Forward,’ and gave the song a tangible, raw authenticity; the ideal soundtrack to lift your spirits and sends a message about the importance of faith, self-belief and determination.

4.)         In your humble opinion, what differentiates Forward from the Distinguished Competition on the 2023 music scene?

The vibe of this song is a like a breath of fresh air. From the upbeat tempo, melodic tunes and vibrant vocals, this song displays a variety of influences from many genres: pop, soul, hip hop and even a little reggae. The Distinguished Competition in the 2023 music scene has not dissapointed, but I believe that entering with ‘Forward’, gives me a fighting chance to be heard.

5.)          On the heels of the release of Forward, can fans look forward (pun not intended!) to an EP or LP release from you before the end of 2023 or perhaps in early 2024?

That is a timely question, since I do plan on releasing a full project by Spring 2024. So be on the lookout for that amazing release!

6.)          How is Forward similar to some of your past music? How is it different?

The similarities of ‘Forward’ to my past music is that I write of relatable experiences. That in spite of what we’ve gone through, we can come out stronger, overcoming the odds. The difference is that writing ‘Forward’ was somewhat cathartic, providing me with a greater sense of confidence in my songwriting and vocals. I hope to replicate this to continue creating great music.

7.)           What does your touring/performing dance card look like in the coming weeks and months?

We’re currently seeking and reviewing our options for touring & performing in the U.S. and eventually, worldwide.

 8.)         Who inspires you musically?

Beyoncé!!. I admire the passion and focus she uses to perform her craft; not only when singing or recording music, but the performances are truly an experience to be had.

9.)         You hail from the beautiful state of Florida. How do those roots inform you as an artist and as a person?

Being born and raised in Florida, there are a few things you can get used to. With so many different cultures, types of music & people, you’re bound to pick up a different flavor (vibe) or two when you’re out & about.

10.)        As a singer-songwriter, which generally comes first for you when working on new material – The lyrics or the music?

It usually depends on what I’m working with. Say for example, if I already have an instrumental I’d just listened to the different instruments on the track and just feel it out. If it’s a ballad like instrumental I listen for the accompaniment of strings and wait for the drums and listen to the story it’s trying to tell. I go with the lyrics where the music leads me. It’s more of a feeling. If you know, you’ll know.

11.)        At the end of the day, what do you hope listeners walk away with after giving Forward many-a spin on their respective turn-tables?

I can only hope that my listeners walk away feeling inspired. Willing and always ready to overcome anything life throws at them! That they would come back to hear what I’ve been preparing for them.
