We’re very happy to be speaking today with acclaimed multifaceted singer and musician extraordinaire, Mapule Namane; greetings and salutations, Mapule! Before we dive down the proverbial Q&A musical rabbit hole, how have the dog days of the summer of ‘23 been treating you?
Greetings to you and all your great beautiful readers. YES, I must say that indeed, not so great as it is very apparent that I need a new wardrobe! But on the positive side, I am happy that it ain’t as cold now.
Major accolades and congrats on your amazing new single Tik Tok Luv! What was the genesis of this remarkable tune? How did it come into being?
This track was triggered by work done on Siyafanelana after a sudden unscheduled studio visit with my crew. So, after recording the above I asked, the label boss to contribute a song jokingly. He to my surprise agreed without a waste of time and actually said we were on a winning streak… How I so pray it so!
How is Tik Tok Luv similar to some of your other music such as Siyafanela? How is it different?
Tik Tok Luv is really way tok easy and fun. Unlike Siyafanelana, the subject track is uncomplicated and deliberately so. The idea was to juxtapose Siyafanelana with a very young not deep thinking tune, but yet decent and captivating.It is also a love song and signify how love should not always be complex and difficult. EVEN finding or feeling love should not be like rocket science I feel. TIK TOK Luv places these underlying points albeit in jest!
Your producer on Tik Tok Luv is the rightly esteemed and respected Mochidi. What was your collaboration process like while working alongside Mochidi?
Mochidi has become like a brother to me. He understands what my voice is capable of whilst he can stretch it to get more. We work with mutual respect and one goal in mind. Really fantastic working with this multi talented young producer and extremely patient with me where necessary.
Tik Tok Luv at its very essence is an unabashed and beautifully structured love song. What does it take to weave a proper love song?
I think you must feel it, then it just falls into place like True love goes. IF you truly love someone, that relationship shall most likely be effortlessly easier than where you must justify to yourself to fall in love with someone. So once you have chosen which target market must hear this love song in the main, then delivery at their level becomes paramount.
With the recent release of Tik Tok Luv, is it safe to say that you’re inching towards an LP release either before the end of 2023 or perhaps in early 2024?
Absolutely correct. The idea is to learn valuable lessons from the EP and go on release a full Album in early 2024. We have already started working on the material for that album
In your opinion, what differentiates Tik Tok Luv from the Distinguished Competition on the 2023 music scene?
I feel it is its an unwavering simplistic song. I am just singing in a direct symbolic manner to explain a very complex concept called love in a demystified simple way.
You hail from Johannesburg in South Africa. How have those roots informed you as both an artist and as a person?
Johannesburg is a wake up call in itself. You are reminded that you are on your own daily by the environment and harsh realities you see daily affecting people around you. So, it has made me more compassionate as I try to go against the grain, but it also pushes me since I know that if I don’t fight for my survival as both human and artist, my dreams shall be shattered!
Who inspires you musically?
I have many influences from BLACK COFFEE, SJAVA,DJ Tira, The late Brenda Fassie to Beyonce, Nicky Minaj, Kelley Rowlands, Cardiff B, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, Jay Z, Chris Brown etc
With the release of the new single, can fans look forward to checking you out on the touring/performing circuit in the coming weeks and months?
oh yes, we are working hard to try get shows, so we are praying to be out there performing and entertaining my fans and supporters. I need to win more fans! Any agent that can help us get gigs is welcome to contact us
At the end of the day, what do you hope listeners walk away with after giving many-a spin to Tik Tok Luv on their hi-fi systems?
I need them to walk away with the less weight on their shoulders. My voice should attach to them so that they can go listen to more of my music on All musical platforms. I need them to stick with me from henceforth to big stages in the world… musically I mean
