NEW YORK – The renowned APEX International Music Competition celebrated its grand finale at the Kaufman Music Center in New York City. The competition is an esteemed global event that aims to identify, select, and nurture musical talents with contemporary relevance and distinct cultural characteristics, contributing significantly to youth music education and enriching the public’s cultural life.

The APEX International Music Competition is organized by the Global Music and Artists Association, co-hosted by the American Youth Leaders Alliance, American Star Dragon Media, and the American Dragon’s Descendant Foundation. Support for the event came from Wall Street Satellite TV and the World Cultural and Arts Association. The Global Music and Artists Association is dedicated to fostering the progress and development of world music and arts, bridging connections among artists globally, and providing a professional platform for ambitious young talents.
This year’s competition was open to young music enthusiasts aged 5-25, allowing performances in piano, other instruments, vocals, choir, and composition. On the afternoon of May 27th, an award-winners concert was held at the Kaufman Music Center. This being the fourth installment organized by the APEX Committee, witnessed a record number of entrants, double from previous years. This surge in participation made the competition fierce, with finalists undergoing rigorous selection processes. Dr. Olga Alino, an international pianist and educator, chaired the preliminary judging panel, narrowing down nearly a thousand contestants to 40 for the award-winners concert.
Dr. Xingye Cai, a distinguished pianist and a judge from the previous competition, was specially invited as the Artistic Director for this year’s competition. Additionally, she delivered a grand finale performance of the renowned Chinese piece, “My Motherland.” Reflecting on the event, Dr. Cai commented on the honor and responsibility of performing for the award-winners and their families. Her rendition of “My Motherland” showcased the piece’s intricate requirements and evocative musical expression, leading to a standing ovation.

Moreover, audiences were treated to classical piano pieces like Chopin’s Nocturnes, Tchaikovsky’s The Seasons, and Debussy’s piece in Arabian style. Among the outstanding performances was Xiang Wang’s rendition of the “And the Stars Were Shining” aria from Puccini’s opera “Tosca.” This aria, sung by the character Cavaradossi before his execution, drew praise from the captivated audience. Young contestants, especially from the children’s category, were particularly impressive, demonstrating immense potential and confidence.
The APEX International Music Competition stands as a pivotal platform in the music industry, aimed at unearthing and grooming fresh, young talents in the international music arena. By showcasing their talents, contestants gain attention and recognition from industry experts. This event not only offers gifted young musicians a chance to soar but, under the guidance of seasoned maestros, molds them into future leaders of the music world.
