Stagnant, heavy, repetition – Daniela Mars’ “Cliffs I – Lost at Sea”, which we are pleased to premiere today, is an original composition carried by the deep and rasping timbres of low flutes, conveying feelings of displacement and confusion. Written in Autumn 2022, the piece is a personal snapshot of a period in which Mars felt “lost in the middle of many possibilities and different paths. It was also a time where I had no fixed home, and although I am very used to the nomad life, this was not a good time for me to not have a haven.”
Daniela Mars’ upcoming album Reverence for the moment seeks to honour the remarkable and unremarkable moments of our lives; cathartic confrontation of loss, celebrating the beauty of life and love, moments we wish to last forever and others we wish to forget. To create the same experience for the music, Mars has taken on the unique strategy of releasing a piece from the album every month. Previous singles from Reverence for the moment include Deep Sleep, 60mm, These are my first words, Crepuscular, and Northern Lights, which have all together amassed over 125,000 streams on Spotify since their release.
